CPU upgrade - socket LGA775

i currently have a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz and looking for an Intel i5 Quad Core or higher. My mother board has a LGA 775 socket. what upgrades are available ??

I strongly recommend you to upgrade to newer sockets (775 isn't worth upgarding anymore).

Well you could upgrade to a core2 extreme qx9770 or an core2 quad 9650.It seems like a quite reasonable upgrade. That would be an upgrade that would give you about 15% more performance, dont expect more, for more you would need a never lga1550 socket xD

There are no i5 for LGA775. If you want one, you need to upgrade to an LGA115x CPU with matching motherboard and memory, ex.: i5-6500 on LGA1151, a h170 motherboard and DDR4 for current generation Intel.

There are no i5s for 775. the core 2 quads where the best 775 cpus. You need to upgrade to a new platform(motherboard, cpu and probably ram).

Yep, I built an E8400 LGA 775 rig seven years ago. There's a reason it's been put out to pasture as a basic duty/backup PC. Spending money to upgrade it would be like spending money on upgrades for a 1988 Ford Topaz, in car years, heh. Time to move on to at least a Haswell i5 (1150) or better yet just get the latest, an i5 Skylake (1151) if you have the budget.

When I upgraded to a Sandy Bridge i5 2500K from that E8400 (o/c'd to 4.4GHz) it was a massive boost. And that i5 is 4 tick-tocks old now (Ivy Bridge->Haswell->Broadwell->Skylake).
