your 4690k cpu if not overclocked, is a pretty heavy bottleneck meaning your cpu is much slower than your gpu. I'd recommend if you want intel go for an i5 8400 or a 9400f. How much ram do you have? The 4690k is pretty good but it doesn't have enough cores or threads for the more demanding games. The i5 8400 is a 6 core 6 thread compared to your 4 core 4 thread. Not to mention the 8400 is way newer than the 4690k you are usingI currently have a i5 4690k and a GTX 1660 6GB but i struggle to run games for some reason.
What CPU shall i upgrade to? preferably under £200.
or even better if someone has any ideas as to why my pc can't run well?
Thanks a lot.
i have 16gb of ram but 2x4 and 1x8 sticks.your 4690k cpu if not overclocked, is a pretty heavy bottleneck meaning your cpu is much slower than your gpu. I have a new motherboard and ram on the way, so the 200 doesnt include the price of all that, so what shall i do? i can probably put 230 in for a good one.At that low of a budget you don't have many options right now, grabbing a used 4790k is probably about the only choice you've got. Anything else requires a new motherboard and new RAM as well as a CPU. Maybe you could build a new Ryzen based system for that budget, but you'd be stuck with something like the R3 1200 or R3 2200G for your CPU, which would be more of a sidegrade from your 4690k rather than an improvement. 3rd Generation Ryzen is launching soon, and maybe if that offers a hexacore for a lower price that might be a viable choice.
At that price I'd recommend if you can, spend money on an entry level motherboard like a b450 motherboard and get a rzyen 5 2600. https://www.amazon.ca/Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450/dp/B07F83RVTC/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1X6TDD4LJ28BD&keywords=msi+x470+gaming+plus&qid=1558296828&s=gateway&sprefix=x470,aps,178&sr=8-2i have 16gb of ram but 2x4 and 1x8 sticks.
Is 8400 worth it or shall i spend that little more for something better?
Keep in mind those are Canadian prices because of where I live and your dollar is much more valuable so you can even get the 2600x if you wanted to although i believe the 2600x is only like 5% faster or something. I'm currently using the rzyen 5 2600 with the msi x470 gaming plus motherboard and I can tell you that every game you decide to play, the ryzen 5 2600 will perform flawlessly. At that price I'd recommend if you can, spend money on an entry level motherboard like a b450 motherboard and get a rzyen 5 2600. https://www.amazon.ca/Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450/dp/B07F83RVTC/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1X6TDD4LJ28BD&keywords=msi+x470+gaming+plus&qid=1558296828&s=gateway&sprefix=x470,aps,178&sr=8-2

like i said before i already have a 1151 motherboard coming so i kinda need a cpu that works with that? any suggestions? At that price I'd recommend if you can, spend money on an entry level motherboard like a b450 motherboard and get a rzyen 5 2600. https://www.amazon.ca/Performance-Gaming-Crossfire-Motherboard-B450/dp/B07F83RVTC/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1X6TDD4LJ28BD&keywords=msi+x470+gaming+plus&qid=1558296828&s=gateway&sprefix=x470,aps,178&sr=8-2

Yeah i have a 1151 motherboard coming so if i get a 8400 will that be alright? will i be able to overclock without anything bottlenecking etc? Then it comes down to which motherboard you have ordered. If it's an AM4 board, then the R5 2600 is the best overall value right now. The 2600x would also be in your price range, but you can get the same performance out of the plain 2600 with an overclock. If it's an Intel board, then it's probably one of the 6 core i5s eg. 8400, 9400, or 9400F. The 9400F is probably the best value, but doesn't have integrated graphics.
A good cheap 1151 cpu I would go with an i5 9600klike i said before i already have a 1151 motherboard coming so i kinda need a cpu that works with that? any suggestions?
