Hi guys,

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU as it (I believe anyway) is the weakest part of my PC, I searched on Google and it recommended the "Ryzen 5 2600 Processor" Which would be find but I would need to get a new Motherboard and because of that New RAM (which i only bought at the start of the corona Virus) and then possibly even a new power supply..

My Specs are:

Processor: AMD FX 8350 Eight Core Processor 4000Mhz
Motherboard: GA-990X-Gaming SLI-CF
Graphics Card: GTX1070
RAM: Vengeance Pro Series DDR3 16GB
Power Supply: RM850i

I'm pretty nooby at all this so please bear with me lol..

Thanks!

You need a new motherboard and DDR3 4 ram for a Ryzen 5 2600. CPU comes with a cooler, however, you will want a nicer one if you intend to overclock, which this motherboard supports.

You could save a little money and go with...

You could save a little money and go with Ryzen 3 3100. Its newer and has noticeably stronger single-core performance compared to the R5 2600 which many games like, however, it has 2 fewer cores than 2060. Up to you.

Oh wow thanks!
If i were to purchase all 3 is there anything i need to know about installing or whatever?

Make sure you backup all your important data (documents, pics, music, etc. etc.), download a fresh install of Windows 10 64 bits (into a pendrive) from microsoft using the Media Creation Tool. And wlays keep the drivers uptodate.

As an alternative of the Ryzen 5 2600, you have the Ryzen 3 3100 (which I personally would try to avoid) or even way better the Ryzen 3 3300X. As NightHawkRMX explained less cores but better performance in todays games. But hey, the Ryzen 5 2600 should already be a huge update over your current CPU.

Keep in mind to use Ryzen 3 3100/3300X you will need to make sure the motherboard has a compatible BIOS version installed.

In AVG/1%Low FPS the Ryzen 3300X will win agains the Ryzen 5 2600 in most, if not on every single game today.

Cheers

I noticed the 3300x was the same cost as 3600 earlier today and like 60 pounds more than the 3100. 3300x is amazing, but not worth that.

That X570 motherboard would work, however, I would consider upgrading to a Ryzen 5 3600 and a nicer MSI B450-max motherboard (which supports 3600 out of the box) which will be more beneficial to performance than using the 2600 with a high-end X570 motherboard. Could use a 3600 and a B550 motherboard if you find a cheap B550.

Keep in mind, x570 supports 2600 and 3600, but the B550 will ONLY support the 3600, not the 2600.

The motherboard situation is confusing.
