alright so in any game i play, and some i stream, ill be playing at 80-120 fps and my cpu usage will drop and my fps will go to 15-40 for a few seconds then come back up. my temps on my cpu dont go more than 55C because im using a good cooler. i just dont know why my cpu would just lower it's usage and drop my frames. when it starts to throttle it goes from 70 or 80% usage down to 30ish. my cpu is the AMD FX-8320 and i got it yesterday. i been trying to fix it all day. i upgraded from the FX 4300. im running at stock speeds, stock everything. and all 8 of the cores are being used.

Ok. So the Thermal Margiin never made it even close to zero, but it throttled anyway. Sounds like overloaded VRM on the motherboard. What model is it?

If your BIOS allows core disabling, you can make it a quad-core for the time-being. If you want to undervolt, you will really need to go pretty far with that. I can help you with either one.

id like to go with whatevever give me the most performance without being dangerous to the CPU. i like to play battlefield 4 and before i got my 8320, i could only get 45-50 fps on it. and i definitely wouldnt like to go back to that seeing as i can get 60-120fps now

also, if it doesnt throttle, does it mean its still dangerous? if i underclock, the throttling happens less, but at the cost of performance

is there any way we can talk faster than this? i dont have much more time tonight

play with your bios and see if you can atleast disable 2 cores from your 8 cores and just lower the frequency to 3ghz and dont multitask of possible dont stress your cpu if you dont plan on changing that motherboard sometime soon.

i disabled 2 cores and if it still tries to throttle i might put my 4300 back in. i really hate needing to go through the process though so ill try and get the best performance i can without damaging my motherboard
