Here lately i find every 5 or 10 mins a popup occur's i wont even have google chrome open but still i get random popup's. And i was watching anime on Crunchy Roll Windows 10 app and it randomly closed on me and same thing happens with my Google Chrome sometimes. So i decided to check task manager and see if there was anything that could be causing my applications to crash from hardware over- usage. When i checked there was a windows process svcshost.exe, which was using up most of my CPU. I have Bitdefender Total Security 2018, ive done online and offline full system scan's and that wouldint pick up anything so i downloaded Malware Bytes Adware Tool, or whatever its called to check for adware because of the popups and that found a bunch of cookies and a couple adware virus's and got rid of them but i am still having the popup issue. I know Zemana is the best application to get rid of such things but i have already used my free trial and do not have the money to purchase it at the current time. Please does anybody know how i can fix the issues i am having. Ohh! and i wont be downloading anything but i keep getting these popups asking me to delete old versions of windows because my storage is low. Earlier when i hopped on my computer after a few hours of sleep i woke up and my C Drive was at 5.6MB. Meanwhile i had nothing actually downloading. I'm very worried, And like i said i have a good paid antivirus that cant pick up and virus's!

I would also like to add that my Bit defender keeps blocking certain windows executable from running like wscript.exe & rundll32.exe. Well i'm not sure if they are actually windows processes but they are in System32 and sysWOW64 sub folders of my windows.

First, SVCHOST is a Windows process, perfectly fine.

Second, when you say in the first sentence "random popups"...what exactly do you mean? like popup ads?

Third, it may be that you are out of hard drive space. Check your hard drive and see how much is used/free (in Windows file explorer, right click on the drive and select Properties).

The popup's are random advertisements for like some used car spot in Ontario and porn games, and other random stuff. And i got 4.6GB free of 106GB, However it was not too long ago that i had cleaned up my C drive and had like 30GB free. I have not downloaded anything on to my C drive either, its just randomly filling up. I have a seperate HDD for games and downloads. my C drive is a SSD meant for windows and other programs i find important.

Random internet surfing will fill up your hard drive with cache/temporary files, so some of that is normal. But to go from 30GB to 4.6GB is pretty major. BUT, if you've done a recent Windows update, it stores "old" windows file in case you need to roll back. That Windows.Old folder can get pretty big. But if you're down to 30GB on a good day, that's just not enough room as these kinds of "system" files that are constantly being written. You need to get another hard drive for sure.

BUT, the popups that appear do kind of hint at a virus or browser hijacker or something. Clean out the folders you can and keep an eye on it, but if my browser was doing that I would seriously consider a fresh Windows install.

First thing the majority of virus infections do is try to take control of any active AV program; so consider Bitdefender to be unreliable.

Next thing many do is divert attempts to reach other AV software vendors and online scanners, sending you to fake versions of their websites.

On a different PC, download the installer for Malwarebytes on to a USB drive.

Disconnect the infected PC from internet access, then boot it in "Safe Mode" - it may not allow you to manually select, but if you interrupt the boot by switching the power off a few times, it should kick in all by its self.

Install Malwarebytes and run a full scan; let it delete anything it finds, then it will want to reboot. Reboot it back into safe mode again - using the same as above if you still cannot get it to work manually, and run another scan.

It may well find more stuff, so allow it to delete and reboot again - into safe mode.

After the 2nd or 3rd scan, it may stop finding stuff; if it doesnt, you need something stronger - so head over to bleepingcomputers.com and scream for help.

I am going to try this method and see if it picks anything up. Keep an eye on this thread please will be doing this pretty soon your help is appreciated!

I downloaded mbam on my laptop and put it on a flashdrive and launched my desktop in safe mode did a quick scan which resulted in finding 7 threats, 5 were PUP's and 2 were malware, Bitcoin mining programs, im assuming installed in secret by a virus i had on my computer to mine for them because personally i do not mine... and i restarted my pc in safemode again and im am doing a full system scan. Then i am going to do the same with Malware Bytes Adwcleaner, Zemana if i can use it in offline mode and avoid the whole trial already used situation. and Avast! Any other antivirus's that would would reccomend i do that with? And those bitcoin miners would probally explain the CPU usage would it not?

Yeah, the bitminers would chew through all available cpu cycles.

I use Avast myself, but as I said, if a virus gets through, the first thing it does is hijack control of the active AV program; that is whay it is a good idea to have a few "On demand" or on line scanners, that you use once per week to check everything is OK.

The 2nd scan is often the one that turns up the most; the first two programs might have been covering for a larger infection.

A few years back, on a scan on a friends PC, the 1st scan turned up about a dozen viri files, and the second scan turned up 1,400!!!!

Her own fault for not asking me sooner; her teenager daughters had been sent a "cool game" by a new "friend" on FB.
