Hey everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade my GPU to one of the upcoming RTX 50 series cards and would really appreciate some advice on what would be the best fit for my current setup.

My Current Rig:
  • Motherboard: MSI A320M-A PRO MAX
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070
  • RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) ADATA GAMMIX D30 DDR4 @3200MHz

I mainly game at 1080p—a mix of competitive titles (like R6, CS2, Apex) and story-based games (like Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, etc.). I want higher frame rates, better ray tracing, and more future-proofing, especially for newer AAA games.

Would an RTX 5070 or 5080 make sense for this kind of setup? Or would that be overkill for 1080p, given my CPU and motherboard? Also, should I consider upgrading my motherboard or other components if I go for a higher-end 50 series card?

Looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

The 50 Series are a joke and getting a 40 Series is pointless what with prices and stuff. A 3070 is a good sweet spot GPU for now until the 60 Series LOL.

You will quickly start hitting CPU and memory subsystem bottlenecks once you upgrade your GPU. Also note that some mid-range GPUs only use x8 PCIe lanes. This is fine if you are on a PCIe 5 or 4 motherboard (4 can show a very slight loss of FPS in certain titles), but using PCIe 3, like your motherboard, can show a significant loss in some titles. There's also the GPU power connector type and PSU to consider.

All in all, you should stick with what you have until you are ready for a full system upgrade. If you really must upgrade now to extend the life of your system for a couple more years. give us your budget, and more importantly, your expectations.

Then please guide me on how to approach when upgrading the other system configurations keeping low-mid budget in mind

Well I did not mention any real budget because I'm from India and the prices might vary from country to country. Could you please start suggesting what would you get yourself when you have 1080p AAA upcoming titles gameplay requirement with tight budget.

I would say this would be a solid 1080p gaming setup, that isn't insanely priced.

logainofhades' selection is very good for the price.

Just note that, even at 1080p some new and upcoming AAA games may need several settings turned down to low/med. You probably won't be able to get good FPS with any kind of ray tracing either. However, this will vary game-to-game. I just want to make sure you have the right expectations. The minimum specs for new games keeps going up and up.
