What would be the reason that my cpu idle is 1% when before it was 0% with a worse hard drive? I have the same windows settings and everything i'm just not sure why task manager is telling me different idle values.
Turns out corsair service, even know it didn't display it on the task manager, was taking up a bit of cpu in the background. After disabling it, my cpu was able to reach new low idle percentages.
Which kind of machine do you have there when 1% CPU usage may pose a problem ? My CPU is always at 4 - 5% but I do have a lot of stuff running in the background even when I'm not doing anything deliberately. It's an 8core, 16 threads processor so even 20% wouldn't make a dent in the performance.
Though I agree 1% usage is not a problem, But when i boot my OS i like to have nothing start up but my anti-virus. Checking my task manager is a great way to do this, and on every pc i've ever had, its been able to hit 0% when it is completely idle. So I keep that in mind as a benchmark so when i download programs, i can tell what processes are running in the backround and how much resources they use from my computer.
An empty, idling computer is just a waste of electricity, might as well shut it off. I like my main machine to do a lot of things all the time it's running. Running several security cameras, watching TV, using for communications and as a server for other devices etc.
