CPU Xeon Speed on 610?

I just got me Precision 610 and want to max out the CPU. The Dell
site says max is 550MHz dual Xeon CPU. But at
computersurplusoutlet.com you can get Intel Pentium III Xeon 667MHz
256k cache for only $10 more. So I am not sure if they will read in
the motherboard as 550 or 667, or if the hardware will just melt
because of the mismatch.

What is the voltage on the CPUs anyway, 2.8v, 5/12v?

Thanks.

fwiw the precision 610 is based on a 440gx chipset and is bound by a
maximum bus speed to 100mhz.
most of the faster (600 and above) p3 xenon require a 133mhz bus. however
there are two p3 xenon that run with a 100mhz bus; a 700mhz and a 900mhz
version. i do not know for certain if they are compatible with your system
but it seems likely. try doing a google search or a search at delltalk to
see what others have found. and you can read up on them here:

if it wasn't clear from my other post... the p3 xenon 667mhz/256k cache is
not and option for your precision 610.
