CPU-Z shows that I am running single channel memory...should be dual

Just ran CPU-Z and it is showing that i'm running single channel memory while it should be running dual. I have both my memory sticks in the A2/B2 configuration which is what is suggested by my MOBO manuel. My MOBO is an asus m5a97 r2.0. I can also see that both of my memory sticks are in proper working order through cpu-z. I'm new to all this so any advice is appreciated.

they are from a dual channel kit. whats odd is they are each 4gb and cpuz shows the size as 8gb, but the channel as single like i said.

Yes. Also, when I look at my system properties windows shows 8.00gb of RAM (3.90gb usable)...

Have you tried one at a time? and each slot on its own? Sounds like something is bad and though both sticks are recognised only one is usable. Also BIOS update? (to be honest I've never seen this help but it wouldn't do any harm to be sure)

I have tried one at a time, sometimes it works, sometimes it won't post

Sounds like a loose connection, try using both sticks in the other channels (assuming you have) also depending how old/grubby your system is give the RAM a clean (I've always used an eraser but apparently Q tips and alcohol are best).

That ram does not appear in the supported list from Asus, nor does Crucial show that ram being approved for your motherboard.

Shouldn't matter. In any case it sounds like either the RAM or the motherboard is defective.
