Hello, recently received a netbook that had a screw that was not put in properly. After a while of trying to remove the screw, I finally got it out without having to do anything drastic (turning little by little). However, while examining the laptop to inspect for damage, there appears to be a crack in the motherboard, quite near the edge. It goes under the headphone jack, which no longer works after this. I currently do not have a picture, but I took the liberty of using Google to find a picture of the mobo and circling where the crack is. I was just wondering the chances of this running stable. Currently the laptop runs as normal, no overheating etc. Opinions are appreciated.

Cracks in the motherboard are typically not something that you want to do, but if its only affecting the headphone jack and it still runs fine there shouldnt be much of an issue. It overall not a good idea to be using that, but since its on the edge and not under anything necessarily important it should be OK, not good, but OK. It may be bad depending how big the crack is or if it spreads. So I would look into a replacement but it should still work for now.

Yeah, it will be replaced fairly soon. Was just curious as it didn't seem to be causing any immediate problems other than the jack. Considering it's running fine just now, what would be worst case scenario if it was to be left in? As I said, it shall be replaced, but would rather learn through other peoples knowledge rather than damaging other parts.

Worst case, it wouldnt run anymore until you replaced it. There is no real worries to the actual system but the motherboard could break extensively in worst case. So running for now is fine but just be sure to not hit the laptop too much until you replace it.
