Crackling Noises From the GPU at Load

Hi. I have MSI GT70 barebone with GTX 870M. There are crackling noises coming from the GPU. Not entirely %100 sure, but I am definitely sure that it happens at load at games etc.

I'm certain it is not coil whine because I have heard it also from the GPU. It was like a wizzling that happens at extremely high FPS. Could it be electronical noise? These crackling noises I mean.

I repasted and cleaned the GPU several times but I fear I may have damaged some thermal pads in the process. Their glues are not strong as before. Also the GPU's heatsink became harder to tighten because its screws are more like round than plus-looked now. This is my doing. And I overclocked the GPU, from 5000 memory to 6000 and 967 core to 1006. I reverted it now but the temps were under control, staying at 87c at max load and no artifacts or anykind.

I think they are somewhat related but I can't tell which. Looking for help to determine what is wrong. Thanks.

I am suspecting it comes from your fan, that´s usually the issue with rattling and crackling noises from video cards. Usually it only takes a cleaning. But you already did that, so I am guessing you may have damaged the surfacemounted components or the thermal pads, as you suggested.

I am no expert on laptop video cards though, and I´d be especially careful about laptop components as they are usually more fragile and more compact than desktop hardware.

I´d either buy a new or see if you can get an exchange for it, but I am guessing opening your laptop and fiddling with the videocard voided any type of warranty.

Thank you for your reply. You are absolutely right. I would have never got myself into to this if I knew how fragile laptop components are. Never recommend to people who new at this. I didn't even know how to loosen a screw before doing this lol.

I RMAd my laptop for hoping what is the cause to this but as I suscepted they didn't find any problems. They just installed Windows 8 over my perfectly stable Windows 7 and replaced thermal paste like a mess. I told them to replace the GPU with another one to check if the problems persists but I don't think they did, even the GPU is replaceable because it is MXM. I gave up hope on them.

I would let it go if it is just the noise but it concerns me to not knowing what is the cause to this noise. I don't want the GPU stop working after the warranty period is over.
