Bought a 4090 Strix and 1000w Thor PSU. Double checked wires twice and everyrhing seems as it should be. MoBo gives AO code. The system boots up but CPU immediately hits 88 to 89⁰ C and then locks up. First crash I manually powered off because of the tenp to check wiring again. 2nd boot up ended up with the screen turning gradually blue from the top to the bottom before turning off on its own.

Rig is 12700k

Z690 Strix gaming wifi E

64GB TRIDENT DDR5

RYUJIN II

Strix 4Strix

Thor 1000w

Sounds like there is an air bubble in the loop OR the pump is not working.

How old is this cooler?

Where is the cooler installed and if it is installed in the front of the case are the hoses routed to the radiator so that they are at the top or the bottom of the radiator as it sits in the front of the case?

Have you made any efforts to dislodge an air bubble by powering on, then tilting the case backwards until it is nearly sitting on it's back panel, then back to flat, then to one side, then to the other side? You can actually even do that a little bit with it powered off if it won't stay on long enough to do any of it but it's a lot more effective if the pump is actually trying to pump while you do it so it can push any air bubble up or out to the radiator.

Are you certain the pump is connected to power correctly? AO code means "All OK" and is not relevant here.

Are you overclocking the CPU at all whether manually or using some automatic profile through the BIOS? Clearly this is a thermal issue and most likely reason is failure to pump. Even without fans running, just the pump should allow a pretty decent amount of time before the temp climbs to what you're seeing if it were pumping properly.

Thanks for the response. The radiator/fans are mounted horizontally at the top of the case. I was using the Asus control box included (worked fine for last year and half sonce I got it). I tried the traditional way and plugged the case fans and AIO in their respective headers on the MoBo instead and same thing: windows boots up then once the Ryujin screen loads, its 88⁰ then climbs to 89 before it starts choking. 3rd time the screen went black and had some cursor movement before powering off about a minute or 2 later

Perhaps some bubbles did form when i was laying it on different sides during installation. There was no overclocking done

Yeah. I was weighing that or sinply just buying a new AIO, swaping my old 3080ti or PSU just to see if something else is borking the system. Just that i dont mind the occasional DIY project but my cable management is a$$ and my back sucks but I guess I have no choice but waste some more time😪

I'll ask again. How old is that cooler? As in, how long has it already been in service?

Did you just recently assemble this system and it has had this problem since day 1 or it was working fine before you swapped out the PSU and graphics card and no other changes were made?

Might want to pull the pump and cold plate and check to see that the backplate, and all associated hardware are correctly installed as well as applying fresh paste, but it sure seems like a pump or flow problem to me unless the water block is somewhat loose.

Was about a year and a half for the AIO with no issues. System has been fine and built around the same time. I just wanted a newer GPU and a PSU to handle it since its a demanding card. 1000w seemed enough and made sure wire it properly.

I shifted the case arouna lot so maybe you're right

So then, you can TRY to get the air bubble to dislodge, in case it is an air bubble by powering it on and rocking it slowly backwards, slowly forwards, slowly side to side and that works sometimes. Often in fact. But if there has been significant permeation it may simply be vapor locked so to speak and might never dislodge.

The ASUS website says the warranty on the RYUJIN II coolers is 6 years, I'd contact them if you can't get the thermal issue resolved and file a warranty claim. Kind of expensive cooler to just write off after only a year and a half.

So funny story guys. I was checking wiring again and tidying up before trying to dislodge bubbles....maybe even getting a new AIO. I finally make my way to the ASUS control box. USB...check. RGB...check. SATA............I forgot to plug in the ****ing SATA cable.

So I guess that's one for the books. Sorry I'm an a$$ and thank you for all the advice.
