I am running windows 8.1 64 bit on my desktop computer. For a little less than a year now, the computer has had these persistent crashes that occur anywhere from two weeks to a month apart. The amount of time spent on the computer does not seem to factor in, as the frequency does not change if I haven't been using the computer as much. What is currently on the computer also plays no part, as I have had it crash when on the internet, while gaming, and while the desktop is all that is open. The computer will hang, blue-screen, and then restart. However, the OS does not reboot, the screen tells me to insert a proper boot device. Turning the computer off and on again fixes this, and the computer runs fine until it happens again.

As far as I can tell, nothing is ever damaged physically when this happens, and no file corruptions occur. The blue screen lists an error code, but it reboots too quickly for me to read what it says, and I can't find a log of the crash with diagnostic tools. I don't think it's the power supply, as this issue has persisted through a power supply change. This is not a major issue, more of an inconvenience, but I would like to find out what's going on if possible.

Solution
1. check for bad ram stick or bad ram timminmg.
2. check for any bios updates for mb.
3. 8000 amd and newer cpu on 900 and other mb can have vrm heat and voltages issues. the smae for some of the low end intel mb. see if it a vrm heat issue keep the case open see if it more stable.
4.run intel cpu test make sure the cpu and memory controller is fine.
5. if you have a apu or battery back up remove it see if the pc stable.
6. check the outlet if your house is oldish. could be lose wire or bad grounds.if your lights blinks when ac or fring comes on have someone check the pannel and have the power comp check the line from the pole to the box.
