Hey all,

So today I installed all of my components onto my 'wall case' thing. Boots up fine, everything normal on startup.

When I launch a game or application, the fans spin extremely fast then the pc shuts itself down with a black screen.

I have never had this problem before with this graphics card, although it is now connected with a shielded ribbon cable and mounted with screws into mobo riser bits.

I have no idea what the problem is, it works fine on the internet and teamspeak, but not games.

Thank you very much,
Dave

Solution
ok. shoot... your symptoms are still all temp, with a slight possibility of power issues thrown in the mix.

maybe the gpu is overheating? download HWMonitor and MSIAfterburner if you can keep the system running long enough to install then load them. if you can't tell me what temp readings you're getting in the bios.

Better still if you have a room fan direct it on the motherboard/hanging tray full blast and see if the issue goes away, if it does then SOMETHING is overheating, we just haven't found what yet.

the other possibility is the psu is bad. if you have another psu you can try that.
ok, i get into an argument every time i say this because for some reason people think it can't possibly be true; so i'll try a different approach

Symptoms-
fans speed up
system shuts down without a blue screen first

Diagnosis-
something is overheating

I don't know what is overheating, but you got a temp problem. you can try touching things on the system to find something that's VERY hot. main suspects would be the CPU, motherboard or power supply. feel the air coming out of the air tower, make sure it's warm, if its room temp the air tower isn't on right and your cpu is overheating. feel the motherboard on the motherboard heatsinks or on the mosfets, if those are so hot they burn you, then it's the motherboard, the psu is simple, check to make sure the fan is working.

Alright, so there is a fan on the heatsink, I think its a Freezer 13. Checked everything, nothing is hotter than normal. I've got crocodile skin, so dont worry, I won't get into an argument. Say what you wanted haha

I used the CPUID HWMonitor, showed me that you were correct. I opened steam and watched how the heat went from 40°C to 90°C... When I closed it, the temp dropped. I guess thats why the fans were going insane.

Do you know what might be causing it to overheat? I've never had a problem with this graphics card before 🙁

My guess is that I'll have to reapply the thermal paste and clean it properly. What do you think?
