Hi all,

I love crawl and more than it the DEMONSPAWN...

Any suggestion on classes combos with DS?
Any suggestion for playing with it?

Thanks!

Monks - paired with a god with abilities to call on - fighters
(berserkers) and nearly any spellcaster (iceE or fireE is fun) stand up
very well to the dungeon inhabitants.

The only real hints to play a demonspawn that i can think of is to use
the demonspawn's natural mutations that can be used, like
poison/fire/ice breath and to increase your unarmed skill level if you
get the horns mutation (so you get extra attacks in melee with them)

Go all out -- Chaos Knight of Xom. You just can't get more chaotic
than that. Not a good bet, I suppose, but fun if you like surprises.

They're the only race with a special knack for Invocations (god powers,
mutation powers). Find a god with some nice powers and use them into the ground.

They have fairly balanced stats, so they are good for classes that both fight
and cast spells.

Have lots of fun. 🙂

Chaos knight of Xom for extra randomness
CK of Makhleb to use that invocation skill
Gl or Mo to use the horns
FE or Ne for a spellcaster that can take some damage

The thing with the Horns mutation is, it's frequent, but not guaranteed.
Still, if you want to bet on getting it, Tr will give you a spellcaster who
can get some use out of it. Wi may give you the book with Oz's armor --
another possible route for monk-style play, but with attack spells to use in
case you don't get Horns (hint: if you don't get them by level 10, the
chances go down a lot). IE gives you a guarantee of Oz's Armor and attack
spells. The other magic-using templates aren't as kind to monk-style play
(except maybe Enchanter, which gives Corona... but you may find Enchanters
hard to play; I do.)

Keep in mind that if you start out with unarmed combat and don't get horns,
all is not lost:
- you can delay your decision of a weapon skill to develop until you see what
nifty weapons turn up at the start;
- you can still get decent unarmed attacks while using armed combat, as long
as you stick to light armor and don't use a shield (which blocks the Punch
attack). (You may also have to be using a 1-handed weapon to get the Punch
attack; can't recall.)
