Crazy Temperature

Hi

I'm new around here was trying to find a reason why my temperatures are so high.
I have a p5k-e wifi with Q6600 no OC stock fans only changes I've made is update my bios.
haven't had any crashes or any problems at all but I'm kinda scare looking at these temperatures.

Those temps are definitely too high for a stock 6600. Definitely try reseating the heatsink, and make sure that all your case fans are spinning (heck, even that the stock heatsink fan is spinning). I'm not big on the stock coolers, but they don't perform that poorly.
 
just bought a ninja scythe to replace the stock cpu fan, put in some thermal paste and bought an extra 120mm fan for the case to push air out.

Now I get 29C-32C when idle.
 
i wouldnt pass 55c personally for idea while overclocking, it just takes off to much life time and you never now what might happen!
 

It looks like your Q6600 might be underclocked. It might just be my eyes, but I think CPU-Z said that your clock speed was 1.8GHz. Also, I couldn't see any Prime95 program or similar in the background. Something must have been VERY wrong. Glad to hear it's working fine now. Just check out your clock speed.

EDIT: Yup, CPU-Z said you were running at 1.6GHz. Your CPU must have started overheating so it slowed itself down to prevent heat damage! Just be glad you didn't buy an AMD or it would have gone up in smoke!
 

Did you mean idle? My CPU gets past 55C on Prime95 small FFT, and I don't think it shortens it's life too much, it only gets up to 48C MAX when gaming for 3 hours. 55C load isn't too bad.
 


82c at idle is NOT a dust problem.

Anything under Intels specs (71c) and it won't degrade the chip.

Probably has speedstep enabled.
 

Phew. I'm safely under 71C (by a long shot - but was still nervous about temps). Speedstep? I don't think so. I have an e2200 and the MAXIMUM I've ever seen speedstep bring the clockspeed down by was 1MHz. The throttle he enountered was definitely to save the chip from death. Yeah, agreed, NOT a dust problem unless you've smooshed it into your rug, wiped it underneath your desk, and sneezed in it a few times for good measure.

SpeedStep must be a LOT different for Q6600s, that's all I can say...
