Hi!

My friend and I are looking to create a private fully ecnrypted "peer to peer" network, this is torrent technolog, right? The idea is to have two routers, Connected somehow, With Limited Connection so both do not have 100% rights to each other due to privacy. We want a secure chat as well. Each router will have a Place where all the torrent files (Good solution?) will be stored, so that each one can Access via for instance FTP. Then, a user would be able to use some kind of software, 100% safely share one or multiple selected files to the other computer. Again, everything has to be fully encrypted as that is the main purpose. How should we go about this? Any ideas of where to start? Is it best to create software for it (In that case, please explain if you can. I have some Programming experience), or does the kind of software already exist?

Any help is greatly appreciated:)

(Sorry if there's a lot of caps, but my browser misbehaves)

Best regards
Erik

I actually already have VPN server, my asus router acts like that. But we're not going to vpn onto each other, i got a vpn to my router, and he has one to his, so thats just to Connect to Our p2p network from the outside world. I need some kind of Connection between the routers, however not give the other guy Complete access to my network, and the other Devices on it. Therefor, i need some kind of a different Connection. Is the VPN server on the asus router encrypted, are all VPN's?

Yes, VPN's are encrypted, thus the P(rivate) in VPN. if you didn't know, it stands for Virtual Private Network.

Could you just use plain old windows file sharing? Create a standard account on your PC's and limit which folders you share, then just have your friend VPN into your network using the limited account? Like I said, I haven't done this before, but it sounds reasonable to me.

yes, that's the first solution i thought of too. I knew what it stood for, i just had to be 100% sure. But i dont want to vpn into each other Networks, as we might get more friends in. I want something, where we can share Our files, like normal torrents, but privately over internet. Is there somehow we could share it like every normal torrent, but With some torrent-password or something? A one-time passcode for instance? If i vpn into another network, all it's Devices would be exposed, creating a vulnerability, and a way for them to Access my network, for pranks if they would. Each network would communicate, but now open completely up

I wouldn't think a VPN would expose anything. I have at least 3 pc's on my home network and my son and girlfriend can't access any computer or device for which their accounts don't have permission to access. A VPN just treats a foreign computer as a computer on the LAN, but it should have the same restrictions as other computers and devices on the LAN.

The only issue I see with the VPN is you may end up with more future friends. Also, I don't see how this is related to torrents. this just sounds like your typical file sharing. A torrent downloads parts of the same file from different sources.

Sounds like you got a point there, i thought it would be easier to exploit a computer, being Connected directly to their network, rather than having to bypass a NAT router first, the firewall

A router's NAT & firewall are just one more added level of security. We have a lot of computers on the LAN at work. Everyone can see all the servers and printers on the network, but no one can access them without the proper credentials.

Anyhow, I'm not sure how to get around the user limit. If all you are doing is file sharing, maybe you all just need to setup FTP servers on your computers and use SFTP (secure FTP) to upload/download the files.

Filezilla supports FTP server and client and it can also do SFTP.
