Creating a Server

I decided to create a server just to play with some friends online, and it works just fine. However, in order for anyone to access my server they need to type in my public ip address. I want to know if there is a way that I can give them a different address to access the server without putting my own personal network at risk (i.e. not giving out my actual public ip). In other words, is there a way I can make a public friendly address for people outside my local network to still be able to access my server?

That is the purpose of a public IP address so other people can find your stuff. You can't really fix the problem of someone who dislikes you abusing your public ip. On a home internet connection there is almost nothing you can do since most things would need to be done at the ISP office.

You either just accept the risk or spend the money to put your server in a hosting center where as part of their service they can protect against some attacks.
