Creating wifi network from scratch

Hello and thank you for helping me,

I have Verizon DSL Actiontec modem/router (GT784WNV), which I have to use.

I also have a NAS (WD MyCloud Mirror, 6TB)

What I want to accomplish:
1. Fast wifi network for streaming video from NAS to multiple devices ( tablet, laptop, TV)
2. Move files quickly from laptop to NAS over wifi

I know I need to buy a router and put my Verizon DSL modem into bridge mode, but I don't know what router to get. I'm interested in speed on this wifi setup, and I don't want to have to reset a router every few days. I also want to future proof whatever router I get so I can use it as the basis for my home network for awhile.

Can't go wrong with ASUS or linksys routers. Does your PC have AC capabilities?

My current laptop does not but I'm not opposed to buying a USB dongle for it, and I'll be building a new desktop when nvidia Pascal comes out and that will have the latest and best wifi.
