Crippled 6800's??? WHY?!?!

So I am DESPERATE to find a regular plain ol' Geforce 6800 card for AGP.

I would also prefer 256MB...

But, why do I keep finding these 512MB ones really cheap, BUT with 128buswidth??? Why would anyone even MAKE this piece of crap, and Why would NVidia even ALLOW such nonsense!!!!

So - can anyone find one for under $200.00 ?

BTW, the one you found is a 6800GS and yes, it has a 256bit interface.

Well to answer both posts...

a. I am afraid of that card, because I don't have the BEST cooling, and I don't really know where to BEGIN on that. Plus, it doesn't have (as far as I know) Shader MOdel 3.0

b. What, then, is the difference between a 6800GS and a GT and a regular!?

Regular is the bog standard, GT is the faster clocked version with more pixel pipelines, and the GS is the guy inbetween.

Yes the Geforce 6 and 7 series support Shader Model 3.0.
Also the 6800GT is a decent card; I still have a 6800GT AGP and it runs most games pretty well.

Actually, no. Both the 6800GT and 6800 Ultra would outperform that card.

I had one e-vga 6800 ultra 256mb 8x agp, and one pny verto Geforce 6800 gt 8x agp.

My feelings exactly. Not only is it a 128-bit mem interface, but it has SLOW memory clocks too. It's worse than pathetic to capitalize on the naive, lure them in with 512MB, when giving them in reality 512MB of slow memory on a crippled bus. :x

The PCI-e 6800GS can beat the 6800GT, but it would have to be a mega clocked version to top a 6800U. Digit-life now has a killer 485/1300 8O clocked 512MB GS in their charts, which at times can beat a 6800U. But's lets be clear that a normal or slightly overclocked 256Mb 6800GS can not beat a 6800U, but can easily trade blows well with the 6800GT.

Man, 6800GS and 7800GS AGP prices have gone up! Look at Newegg, it's pathetic. First the X850Xt AGP skyrockets and now this.

How much is tiger getitng for shipping? $8?

Possibly true in the PCI-EX card. In the AGP cards the added memory speed (the core is clocked around 350 but the memory 1000) doesn't help. I have both cards and the GT wins until I unlock the pipes/shaders to 16x6 then the 2 cards are basically identical in terms of performance, even with the faster ram on the GS.
