Cross platform STEAM question???

So I'm a windows gamer that plays a lot of counter strike:global offensive

I wanted to get ubuntu as a replacement. I know the game has a linux version, what I'm wondering is whether the servers are the same? so Will i still be able to play with my windows user friends?

Yes the servers are the same.
The servers were probably linux servers already anyways.

Yes they are, there's no technical difference between the Windows and Linux versions of the game. In fact, prior to Valve releasing a native Linux version, many users played the Windows version using WINE.
