Crossfire v sli /mobo

Ok guys i have 2x msi gtx 970 4gb gaming card. to set these up i was told i need to go to nvidia controls and do something with sli blar blar , but its not there so i did some digging and found that my mobo Asrock z77 pro 4 does not support sli no idea why, so i getting confused how can i make the most of the 2 cards i have or do i just need to buy a new mobo

It doesn't support SLI because the 2nd 16x slot only runs at 4x speeds and SLI requires them to run at atleast 8x. For SLI you'd need a new board. However I would get a gtx 1070 and sell the 970s.
