Crossfire with an AMD A8-6600k and R9 380?

Hello I recently overclocked my AMD A8-6600K APU to 4.2Ghz (my first time overclocking)
A friend has recommended Crossfire after I installed an R9 380 GPU into my system a while back.
I'm wondering what exactly Crossfire would do with these two components and whether it would work or not and be more effective than running games off my GPU as normal.

For crossfire you'd need 2 R9 380's. I think there is a misunderstanding there.

He means dual graphics, which used to be called 'Hybrid Crossfire' or 'Hybrid CrossfireX'.

As far as I'm aware, you can only enable dual graphics with a Radeon HD 6570 or HD 6670 with that APU.

I agree, I think your friend means Dual Graphics, which is only compatible with some older cards and APUs, and for the newer ones much lower powered GPU's than you have.

To crossfire you would need another R9 380 and with that processor I wouldn't waste the money, the processor wouldn't be able to keep up with the GPUs.

Yep. Can only do dual GPU if you have identical discrete graphics compared to your onboard gfx.

Oh thank you guys for the help! I was only interested in the idea as an alternative to upgrading my CPU to a newer 6 core one which requires a new motherboard 🙁
