can anyone advise here?
i presume i could crossfire the two but would the xxx version run at the lower speed of the stock hd5870
making it pointless crossfire the more expensive xxx and standard 5870?

i didnt realise adding to the op was classed as Bumping here, my apologies, because being polite costs nothing.

Ive read the faq thanks it didnt answer my question hence my post.

thanks Djentleman
they are different clock speeds, that was my concern and i dont really want the higher clock speed lowering to match the standard 5870 it would be pointless getting a xxx version.

What happens if the cards have different speed
For ATI cards;
One of the cards will raise/lower its clock speeds to reach the other card's speeds.

For Nvidia cards;
Well it "was" like ATI with older drivers, but with new drivers its quite different.If you use 2(or more) Nvidia cards with different clock speeds in SLI mode,none of them will change their clocks and they will perform at their default clock speed.

Straight from the FAQ. So I.E. the cards will auto-adjust. Should either overclock the slower card to the faster cards speed if you can or just leave em alone. More then likely the xxx will slow it's self down a bit.
