@beenthere

Every HDD manufacturer has had dud models too.

I updated my firmware, took about 2 minutes from download to booted again, painless if somewhat annoying having to switch to IDE then back to AHCI.

To antonioq1966, now that's called AWESOMENESS!!!!
That's exactly what I wanted to see, read speed from 412 mb/s to 523 mb/s.

I just used calculator default read speed 415 mb/s x 1.20 (20% increase) = 498 mb/s (BYE BYE SANDFORCE!!!)

kd0frg, that seq read speed is pretty low.

I used to have Crucial C300 RealSSD 256 GB running on Marvell 9123 (AHCI mode) and crystaldiskmark seq read speed was 328 mb/s.
And that was running on a Core i7 930 at default clock 2.8 GHZ.

yeah im not sure what the problem is, im runnin a i7 930 @ 3.36ghz, 12gb of ram, AHCI is turned on, the marvel controller is 91xx it says in my device manager, the mobo is an asus p6x58d premium motherboard, theres almost 30gb free on the drive

I'm also using P6X58D Premium. I don't know why you have low read speed. My CPU clock was even lower than yours when I benchmarked the C300.

kd0frg? Dont use the marvell connector, to my knowledge, all these add-on chips share bandwidth. On this board probably the 4 pcie lanes are shared with the USB ports, NIC, etc.

Use your SSD on the Intel controller, each port as a dedicated 6gb connection.

[citation][nom]Wish I Was Wealthy[/nom]I'm not a Crucial user & I don't think I ever will be after studying up their so called good performance write ups & anyway most people that I talk to would rather use OCZ instead.[/citation]

Despite record sales OCZ posted a 9 million dollar loss. I'm not sure what the problem is but I can imagine they have a high return rate for their SSD's. Also, over at www.anandtech.com, they are experiencing random BSOD's with the vertex 3. The minor performance advantage of the Vertex 3 is worthless if you have to rip the SSD out of a system and return. For the highest "Total Performance Of Ownership" I would get a crucial or Intel SSD. OCZ is probably not the best way to go.

Hey TEAMSCOOKER,anandtech ain't so smart anyway & crucial ain't so big or such a cool well established, trust worthy company either. OCZ has been around for a while you know & don't forget that on write ups & tests done around on the internet, quite a few places would have OCZ above crucial also.

Im not sure i can put my SSD on the intel controller, i have a RAID setup on my sata2/3gbps ports, will it conflict with my raid setup? - i can do it real fast i guess i could just try it, pretty sure i have spare open cables i plugged in, in case i ever wanted to plug drives into them, since it is so awkward to get to my sata ports because of the position on the motherboard

but im also thinking trucrypt has something to do with my lower performance, since my cpu does not have accelerated AES, it might snag my numbers a bit, not sure though.

I had a OCZ ssd for about 5 months, and it failed on me, it was pretty fast too, there was a blue screen, and then nothing. But the USB port worked for about 15 minutes and i was getting my data off it but then that failed as well. On the bright side, OCZ was quick to respond and RMA it for me, i got an email saying they wanted to speak with me after they received my old drive in the mail. So i called em up and one of the guys asked me if the Agility 2 would be a good replacement for me, he had me look at the website and i said, sure.. *it was a more expensive model, and it was faster yay!* so i got it in the mail some 4 days later and it worked good.

Same with Intel "Come 'unlock' additional cores (speed) for your device"

Here is a review from The SSD Review showing the benefit of the update.... http://thessdreview.com/latest-buzz/crucial-m4-ssd-firmware-update-0009-posted-tests-display-definite-performance-increase/

You can just ignore the upgrade voucher ($50) and pay full price ($150+) for another CPU, just as you upgrade from 1090T to 1100T. AMD is so kind and AMD fanboy is so smart!
