currently running a ryzen 2700 on an x470 pro carbon motherboard with the stock cooler. Kinda concerned after reading that the Cryorig R1 ultimate hang over the first PCIe slot. Would the R1 universal have the same problem?

They're essentially the same cooler, only having a difference in the depth of the cooler when the cooler is upright. Why are you limited to those two coolers? What's wrong with coolers from Deepcool or Coolermaster or even going for Cryorig H7 cooler? Where are you located and how much do you have allocated to your cooler? We're also going to need your full system's specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

I have an R1 universal and had no problems with it blocking the top pci-e slot on my Z370 board. It will make getting to the pci-e release lever difficult, you'll need something long and thin to push down the release when you need to remove the GPU.
The Ultimate and the Universal are the same cooler the only difference between the them is 1 fan, the Universal has a smaller front fan so it doesn't block the use of ram slots.
