I'm sorry, but what's the point of all that RAM without using a 64bit OS? 8GB... I really hope thats a typo... I get that 4GB kits are pretty common, but 8GB....

Could be -
A: Be a typo... in all accounts, which is legitimately possible.
B: Lack of a x64 OS around.
C: Wanting to test on x86, due to most games still having more benefit in a 32-bit operating system compared to a 64-bit with more RAM.
D: The 8 GB A-Data Vitesta set looks pretty cool, so why not?

Also, you`re forgetting, because if my memory serves correctly, and please correct me if I`m wrong, but the 4.00GB thoeretical (4,294,967,296 bytes, which is 2^32) physical memory address limitation in a 32 bit enviroment also includes the RAM included on the video graphics accelerator.
For example, you have 4GB of ssystem RAM, and 1.00GB (1,073,741,824) of GPU RAM. You will see Windows likely display 3.00GB (3,221,225,472 bytes) of system RAM available, because the OS put the priority on the VGA RAM.
This adding together to make 4GB useless, and making 8GB even thus further useless.

But like I said, the x86 OS may have better performance regardless.
Toms did a review on that not too long ago, and they also did a review to show that most modern games don`t actually benefit from havuing over 3GB of RAM for the most part.
They could have just used what was on hand.

Are you guys kidding me? I played trough the whole game and I got stuck only once, even then the reason for it was of the fact that I didn't know how to kill the boss.

Seeing what systems you all have here, I wonder how I managed to pass that game at 1440*900 + 2x AA on a crapy AMD Opteron 165 (over. to 2.6Ghz), 2 Gb of DDR 1 and a Radeon HD 3870. The only time I had low frame rate (around 12 fps) was only when I turned on the heat pipes in the closed room with the spider. and even that didn't last for long. This game does have bugs, but if you back up your saves you'll finish it without a single problem. If you like out of ordinary shooters, you better play this game. It is a good game, I could go all the way and say that the story line is as good as of Crysis.

Notice how this was written by "Best of Media Team."

Somehow, given that a game guide would better suit TomsGuide, I'd say that this was EITHER a sort of paid advertisement, with the hardware configuration being about how the game has proven to run slow on most systems,

-OR- (and more likely)

We are seeing a bit of a shift in how Tomshardware does its business. We have seen lots of reviews of hardware here, but little actual testing has focused on the end results. Reviews like this not only tells us about the game (enjoyable, unenjoyable, bleh or meh) but also tells people when its time for a hardware update. Otherwise, you are left picking through the (not-so-often-updated) charts to know when.

Would like to point out that the charts were kinda poor though... that is, the charts were poorly made. Did the design team take their computers home, and you had to do this on your secretaries old Pentium III tower or something?

I can imagine that in the halls of Tomshardware, some is using a Newton device.

"If, when you think about Russia, you associate it with vodka, mink-clad beauties, caviar, and Matryoshka dolls"

and Tetris, why was that left out?

8 GB A-Data Vitesta DDR2-800, CL4 Timings

Please note, this translation is not complete. The review was published fisrt on the german site in three parts with a little bit more details, pictures and text.

We can read:
...8 GB A-Data Vitesta DDR2-800, CL4-Timings (davon 4GB Swapfile als RAM-Disk)

The guy is using RAM Disk Plus to get the unusable 4,7 GB (Vista x86) as a fast swapfile. It really works.

i think Cryostsis was a joke and optimized for a car computer. i have an E8600 with 2 285 GTXs in SLI with 2 GIG of mem. raided on Windows 7 and it still runs like CRAP. not only that i think GTA 4 and Mirrors Edge are a F-IN joke and a slap in consumers faces...i mean what the F*CK were these IDIOTS thinking or smoking when these games were made. the Vehicle control in GTA 4 is down right PATHETIC and could only dream of control like scarface. i will NEVER EVER buy a game on hype again. DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY ON THESE GAMES.....hell i will go so far as to say i will give these crap games away....TOMB RAIDER UNDERWORLD and DEVIL MAY CRY 4....ROCK ON

The game is amazing...kind of like the cult classic 'Call of Cthulu'. Its absolutely great to play it in a dark room with headphones on. And its running quite smooth on my ancient rig:

Intel dual core e2140 at stock settings of 1.6ghz
2gb ddr2 ram at 667mhz
ati 4850 512 mb ddr3

My rig does a killer good job of spinning up this game. However, it is painfully slow and not too interesting. May be a Q of early levels as the story line is interesting, but..............
