Crysis 2 laggs on 5970

I've been hearing that a GPU is suppose to work in between 70C and 80C and as long as the temperature don't exceed 90C you're good and it has never reached that level so I highly doubt it's the cooling or temperature.

I've ran Furmark which is more intensive than Crysis 2 at ultra, pushes my card to 82C at the most.

What I'm still experiencing is the flickering (in crysis 2). It's hard to describe but let's say there is a damage surface on a building and it contains shadows from different light sources. That damaged surface appears and disappears depending on my movement. And if I lower my settings to the lowest which is "High" the effect won't go away.

I've been looking at some forums that there are people that overclock their 5970 on stock cooling to much higher mhz with a good result.

I thought I would give it a try but as soon as I turned up my core mhz just with 5mhz from 725 to 730. My screen would start to flicker in Windows when I moved my windows around. I've been experiencing that too when I watch youtube clips (when it changes clip).

But all you guys say that my graphics card are too slow to run Crysis 2 on Ultra?

I still think there is something wrong with the card since I get strange effects over time.

P.S.

I downloaded GPU-Z to check temperature etc in crysis and I found something really interesting. Checkout the ATI Crossfire Setting:

Also one more thing, I used 3 monitors for GPU temp and I tested Crysis 2 with all settings maxed and I got the flickering. I tried lowering the settings to minimum and got the flickering. I tried maxing my fan to 100% and lowered my temp down to 57C and I still experienced the flickering. I still experience occasional lagg and the GPU activity never reaches 100% acording to MSI afterburner. It reaches 99%

As I said. I doubt it's a temperature related problem, either it's the config/driver of the card, the card itself or the card is just too weak.

Maybe its the game? Are you having this problem on any other games? Also, like I said before, might also be your GPU trying to conserve power as well, as it is at 99% usage. So it might be trying to use up less power and well perform not as well as to not max itself out... Just an assumption 😛 I would reccomend upgrading your card anyways, as its not even that good for newer games coming out. You could also try getting a 2nd, and running the game in crossfire. 😀

do you have any clue what a 5970 is? It is a dual gpu card and is already running " crossfire" in a sense. That card is beast and should run newer games just fine

Haha dunno but when I bought it about a year ago it was the fastest card in the world. At least what I read. Seems just strange how a card of that range can be outdated so quickly. The tessellation issue I can buy but the card being too slow. Doesn't seem likely.

I'm really getting tired of the card and think im just gonna ride this one out and get a new card later on. Looking towards Nvidia next time.

There may be something wrong with my current card but it's so damn hard to get any real proof to confirm it.

Well, ik a few people that have the 5970 and have been having lag issues on Call of Duty 5 for crying out loud... So, maybe the design was kind of shitty? Maybe like the GTX 590? I honestly prefer Nvidia, I just find they usually have better products (personal opinion).

I was actually thinking of selling off my 5970 and get a GTX580 but how much it will improve my performance and experience, I don't really know.

I will go from crossfire to single card which could make an improvement and also i'd leave the CCC drivers. Perhaps that would be reason enough to change card. My friend that had 5870 had alot of driver faults and when he changed to a GTX580 all his troubles went away.

Update:

I sold my 5970 card and bought a GTX580 and all of my problems went away. I can play Crysis 2 at Ultra with no problems at all and I'm extremely satisfied.

Never more ATI >_<''
