Hey guys

I recently purchased and played through Crysis 2. I loved it! And I want more! :D Obviously the original and warhead are next on the list, but I was wondering if there are any other games out there that are similar to it? You know, games that allow you to be patient and stealthy and also creative and tactical? I'm not really a fan of just running and gunning... Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies! I played both Far Cries. The first one wasn't that good to me, enjoyed the second one! As for the recommendations (please note what follows here is a personal opinion. I am most grateful to any and all recommendations and do not wish to offend anyone): I don't much like Assassin's creed or Hitman (don't know why its just games I've never enjoyed) As for Thief: it sounds interesting. Is there some gun play involved (I quite like the role of a sniper, as opposed to close quarter's stealth. Sorry I should have made that clearer) As for Batman: I played the demo and didn't like it at all! There was just too much clicking and not enough real skill. Did I get the wrong impression? Deus Ex: Human Revolution was also a game I was considering. Is it very good or not really. And finally, AVP: I'm very intrigued by the idea and theme of the game, but I read it was a buggy game somewhere. How bad were the bugs and is it still buggy?

Many thanks for all the recommendations so far! Any others are welcome!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a great game. It is full of style and swagger.

You're right that there's not masses of skill involved in Batman, a lot is down to timing more than strategy or skill. I still loved it at first though for the exploration/collectibles and the presentation. I just got tired of it because you can't actually kill the bad guys, even when they're shooting guns at you!

I actually really like all the games here, surprised you didn't like Hitman or Far Cry! Far Cry especially had the awesome sniping/infiltration type gameplay going for it. I didn't have as much fun with Deus Ex 3 as with the first two, and I don't recall many really long range bits for sniping. There are certainly options though for different ways to approach situations.

Have you played Manhunt? It's old but awesome :) Borderlands is another obvious sniper-heavy game.

To be completely honest, I ruined Far Cry for myself by using cheats, amd then just never regained interest. I'll look into Deus 3 and Manhunt! The cartoon graphics of Borderlands just puts me off, unfortunately. How about Sniper Ghost Warrior? I played the demo of Sniper V2 Elite and loved it!

Surprisingly, you don't really notice it after a while! Maybe because I put so many hours into it (the game encourages you to put lots of hours in, short sessions don't really result in progress).

Is that the game with the ultra-detailed headshots? I like the looks of that :)

YES!!! Headshots, spine shots, vital hits!! All in glorious slo-mo!! :D Only slight distracting feature is the third person perspective, it's not as immersive as first person.

BTW, has anyone had experience with Sniper: Ghost Warrior, or Tom Clancy's Future Soldier? I hear they both good stealth/sniper games?

Haha nice! Maybe I'll give it a shot (no pun intended). I generally try to avoid making recommendations of ultra mainstream, well-known games (precisely because they're well-known - you already know about it!) but I can't recommend the Mass Effect series highly enough if you've not played it. There's a bit more strategy than pure shooters and some awesome sniper rifles ;-) The original is a bit crap interms of the action but awesome for the setting, introducing the ME universe etc. The second and third both have excellent action.

Nobody mentions STALKER? The shame!!

Go pick up STALKER: Call of Pripyat, and then download "The Complete Mod."

If you liked FarCry2 (I loved it as well), then you'll probably love STALKER as well. It's an open-world FPS with mission-based gameplay and some RPG elements (like full day/night cycle, food, medicine, weapons and suit upgradability).

Gunfights are difficult and require you to use cover effectively (run and gun will only get you killed in STALKER....within seconds). It's right up your alley.

Oh....and you can be a sniper all you want. There are a number of different real-world sniper rifles in the game.

My favorite is probably the VSS Vintorez with high-contrast optics. It's light-weight and silent. It will require you to get a little closer than some high-powered big caliber gun like the Druganov SVD, but I like the sneak in and take em' down aspect of it.

I played the first Mass Effect. Loved the storyline, but there weren't many sniper opportunities. So I'll probably pick those two up then thanks! :D

That Stalker game looks very intriguing! I assume the mod is to up the graphical prowess a bit? Will this mod work if I download the game through steam?

The mod ups the graphic / texture quality as well as sounds and various other elements. It works just great with STEAM. Here's a page where you can overview the mod. There is a Complete Mod available for each of the 3 STALKER games. It also fixes some bugs in the vanilla game, and allows you to buy a sleeping bag so that you can sleep at night without having to find a bed (this is actually important..LOL).

Stalker is a good idea actually, I forgot about that. I only played the original and there were a lot of bugs (and some hilarious translation mistakes from the Russian) but this is probably much less glitchy now. I'd say it's more up your alley than up your ally though :-D Does the new one have vehicles? Sprinting for miles was a bit annoying in the original!

Dishonored plays really similarly to Crysis. You have an ability wheel and can teleport forward/up, slow time, etc. It's an amazing game. I just beat it for the third time. There are a few different endings.

crysis 2 and the previous crysis series played differently because of their nano suits. in crysis 2 you become super human because of nano suit but its not the case with the original crysis. even with nano suit you still have to be careful when approching your enemies. that's when the nano suit power comes in to play depending on how you want to play it. speed mode, power mode, cloak mode and you can only use it on very limited time which add the challenge. the best of all is? armor mode which are more vulnerable to bullet damage than normal kevlar. :D

Haha I understand that the orginal Crysis and Crysis 2 are very different, but to be honest I quite like the whole idea of the game and also the graphics so I'm willing to try :). I've heard a whole lot of great recommendations! Thanks guys! Really helped me out! Sorry I can't select a best answer, everyone gave good sound advice! I picked up Deus Ex: Human Revolution today, I'll probably start playing tomorrow.

@ nocturnal: I'm sorry but I disagree with you. I've played both Halo and COD and I feel they are more about quick reactions than tactical stealth. Sure there are times when you have to react quickly in Crysis 2, but most of the time you can be patient amd stealthy. Not meaning to offend you.

Any way thanks for recommendations! I'm sure I'll enjoy those new games!

Have fun with it :) max that inventory, hacking and recoil ASAP! Heavy lifting, wallpunching, rebreather and social are useful to get soon also. And consider carefully what to spend your upgrade kits on - there's only so many upgrade kits in the game!
