I recently got an external SSD that has USB 3.1 and decided to run CrystalDiskMark tests against all the storage drives on my system.

I tested everything from my NVMe PCIe drive to my HDD SATA drive and I thought it might be interesting to share the results and get some commentary.

I'm running CrystalDiskMark 6.0 and have all the settings on default (2 tests @ 50MiB). Here are my results rounded up (Read MB/s | Write MB/s):

SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD USB 3.1
Seq Q32T1: 558 | 515
4KiB Q8T8: 111 | 112
4KiB Q32T1: 105 | 103
4KiB Q1T1: 26 | 33

4KiB Q32T1: 349 | 308

I appreciate any comments, trying to compare my results with ones online I'm finding they vary a lot or offer a sea of numbers I'm having a hard time decyphering, so I'm kind of confused which of my drives are running properly or under performing. The Dekstar seems to have a really low score not sure what numbers I should be comparing with this review:

-Thanks!

Are you saying using CrystalDiskMark is not a good way to compare hard drive speeds?

All 4 look about right.
The Deskstar HDD will be significantly slower than the SSD's.

Which parameters would they be? IMO the best test is one which simulates real world usage and does not rely on special, undisclosed tweaks, assuming that there are such things.

The results look to be normal for assorted SATA SSDs , and an X2 NVME drive; the Deskstar 7200 rpm perhaps seems a tad slow to me, as most modern 7200 rpm drives show ~160-180 MB/sec sequential read/writes... Perhaps the external USB drive is on a slower USB 2.0 port?
