The only reason its so fearsome to us really is because in most of the firefights we get into like in iraq currently and back in vietnam were at less than 100 yards. The effective range of the rifle is really only about 300yds accurately when firing more than 1 shot in a row. It's not so much the round as it is the full auto with the 16" barrel. Like say you did 3 round bursts with iron sights. Youd probably hit with the first round of each burst if you took the time to reacquire your target after each burst... giving you an accuracy rating of ~33%. The 5.56 is about half the size of the 7.62 and has much less kick (as you probably know), so you'd probably hit with 66% accuracy doing the same three round bursts. The problem I have is in the game Im using their AK on them while they return fire on me with the same weapon and they are more accurate than I am. If you get a guy in crysis to shoot at you from a good distance away and watch him with your binocs (I think they have ranging in them dont they? bah I cant remember its been so long since Ive played it)... and range the guy you'll see they hit you with almost every round from over 500yds away. If you return fire on them, even when they are standing still and youre in strength mode with iron sights, you'll only hit them like once or twice out of 10 rounds. The enemies are a TAD too accurate and their rounds do way too much damage on you if you are wearing some sort of super suit armor. That is unless the super nanosuit armor is really just as strong as a button up short sleeve dress shirt and boonie hat. LOL![/citation]
Fellow's right. I once had the opportunity to fire some weapons (the INSAS 5.56 SLR and the 5.56 LMG) at a firing range courtesy an uncle.....at 50 meters in burst fire mode, the first shot hit close to the bulls eye, the second one midway between the BE and the edge, and the third either on the edge or a complete miss. Full auto on the LMG was even worse- they let me try it out with 5 rounds in the mag- only 2 shots hit the target. Also, the recoil in Crysis is a lot less than a real weapon-firing full auto at anything more than point blank range can't possible hit anything. Also, trying to fire in controlled bursts a la Rainbow Six would cause some of the weapons to "lock up" ie you're clicking but nothing is happening.
