Used to, I got a solid 200+ FPS in CS:GO, but recently after installing my new GTX 1060 6GB, I am averaging 115 FPS. This is concerning me and I am not sure what is wrong. I just upgraded to Windows 10 as well.

I upgraded from a Gigabyte Radeon 7850 2GB by the way.

Specs:
AMD FX-8320 @ 4.2 Ghz
MSI GTX 1060 6GB
16GB RipJawz 1600 Ram (PC3 12800)
Gigabyte 990-FX UD3 Rev 3.0

Well, i'd expect an underwhelming growth of performance from multiplayer games that involve massive open world environments, this generally places a lot more stress to the CPU as oppose to the GPU.

Well, I do agree with you on the fact that having more frames is most certainly good, but getting frames higher than your monitor refresh rate wont really matter, especially in games like CS:GO. You probably know this already xD.

As for the spare money you have in possession, i'd ask myself on what games i'd like to play. 144Hz + 144 fps on a competitive game like CS:GO would definitely give you an advantage, but then again i did reach Supreme and held that rank for 2 months with a 60Hz monitor. It really would just depend on how much...

I didn't think that was a problem. I've never had issues running CS:GO with my 8320, but I guess I could be wrong. So upgrading to an Intel is my only option?

Alright. I have enough for the upgrade, but I was hoping to splurge on a 144hz monitor lol. Guess I'll go with that. Looks like the i5-6600k is a good option. What board should I pair with it?

Your FX 8320 at 4.2ghz is fine don't listen to him that is not the issue at all.
Wait on Ryzen if you are upgrading.
do you have the new HRTF audio setting in CSGO turned off? It supposedly causes low fps

Actually quite curious on what your current monitor refresh rate is. What is your monitor refresh rate? 😀

Additionally there have been reports in games like CSGO and DOTA that a certain windows feature is hindering and decreasing performance.
Does it not pop-up when entering a game? Or have they patched those issues for now?

My refresh rate is only 60hz atm, but the more frames the better haha.

I turned it off as soon as I installed Windows 10.

Yes it is turned off. Is my FX 8320 still relevant though or should I still upgrade while I have the money?

I've noticed some of my games' performance has improved while other games have suffered. Particularly Source Engine games and H1Z1.

It really would just depend on how much money you are really willing to splurge just to gain a keener edge in shooters and such, and it's not like you're reaching and maintaining a constant 144 fps at the moment in source games as you've said above.

If i were you, i would definitely choose the CPU + MOBO upgrade path. Would overall improve performance in all and every games. Any mid-tier i5s from the 5th-6th generation would definitely net you a noticeable performance gain. And depending on your budget, getting an i7 will also give you access to a lot more utilities and benefits outside gaming.

Can you give us the budget for your monitor upgrade/ CPU upgrade?

I have about $350 set aside. I know about the refresh rate to framerate connection, and even though my monitor only refreshes at 60Hz, the amount of frames that my computer is sending to the monitor affects which scenes its displaying. I think there is a video on this somewhere on YouTube. But I do think that the CPU+Mobo upgrade is the more-viable option.
