I have a gtx 1070 gaming Z which is a total overkill for just playing cs:go
Also cs:go is mostly cpu dependent, so im thinking of downgrading because I need cash for other things 😉
which gpu will be sufficient for not losing barely any frames? 1080p low settings

was thinking of the gtx 1050 ti, is that a good choise?

Solution
CS:GO is just a very weird case in general. Honestly can't tell what will happen with a lower end GPU since the performance doesn't seem consistent on each system.
I would think a GTX 1060 is as low as you would want to go with that CPU for max FPS but I could be wrong. What's your CPU's max frame rate in CS:GO with a GTX 1070 on low settings and lowest resolution (not just low settings)? If it goes up at all from what your getting on just the low settings then your GTX 1070 isn't bottlenecked as much as you thought. If it is the same then yeah you could back off to a gtx 1060 or lower.

when I go lowest resolution there is no difference in fps at all. There is a benchmark in cs:go where I get an average of 270 fps.
But in matchmaking im like 350+ fps
EDIT: gonna do some more tests

yeah then backing off your GPU is no issues. I would think a GTX 1060 3gb would be your decent bet but even if you stepped down to a gtx 1050Ti I am guessing your won't lose to much off your frame rate if anything. What do you plan on adding to your PC in place of the better GPU if I may ask? Also besides CS:go do you do any other gaming on your rig. If no then the GTX 1050Ti would likely be your best bet, if you do use other games then the GTX 1060 6GB might not be a bad choice if they are newer titles. If you do game but they are older titles then a GTX 1060 3GB might be the best option. Kind of depends on your usage and what your trying to buy with the extra funds.

mmm the i7 920 was/is such a great CPU, especially if you overclocked it. My wife runs a i7 970 hexacore @4ghz to this day for her gaming needs with 2 gtx 980s. /still has no issues with bottlenecking for 60hz/FPS game play. Once i upgrade my i7 3930K she'll inherit it for her rig. I am hoping Ryzen is not all hype because I miss building with AMD.

that is quite true depending on whether or not he games other titles. Regardless the OP sounds like they don't mind low settings so they would likely be happy with any modern CPU that was launched in 2016...further back the OP would have to be a little more discriminating GPU wise but again CS:Go isn't exactly a GPU hog by any stretch of the imagination.

I did a new test on the FPS benchmark in csgo.
16:9 1920x1080p low settings 473 fps average (dipped to 100 fps in smoke) 35-60% gpu usage (90-100% in smoke)
16:9 1176x664 low settings 491 fps average (200 fps in smoke) average 30-40% gpu usage (90% in smoke)
4:3 640x480 low settings 542 fps average (around 200 fps in smoke) average 30-40% gpu usage (80% in smoke)
using a 144hz monitor aswell, in a matchmaking game I have not seen below 200 fps in smoke on 1080p tho just in this benchmark

Iconic/Legendary like Core 2 series, indestructible!

if that is true your not bottlenecked nearly as much as I thought for 1080P and a GTX 1070. Regardless your can afford to lose some frames considering the best refresh rates out there top out at 144hz. So yeah a gtx 1050/rx 460 would be more then enough for your needs. Think i would consider getting a high refresh rate monitor if you don't already have one. That would be a great way to spend some of that money you save dropping to a gtx 1050 (i wouldn't even bother with the Ti version if CS:go is all your playing).

I already have a 144hz monitor 😉 I need the extra money to fix my car haha im poor XD also im little worried about the smoke fps tho... since my 1070 goes down to 100 what will happen with a 1050? every second for me in csgo matters so... I play on a pretty high level at faceit (faceit is like a higher player ranked platform)

should I do another test and check my CPU usage while im close to the smoke?
EDIT: was no difference in cpu usage while close to the smoke. 20-30% however the gpu hit 100% usage instant

Even R9 270 (not X) is little bit better than r7 370, and I forgot it in list, anyway he has wide spectre of options tbh.

Im looking for nvidia only 😉 Still worried about this smoke fps tho.. since my gpu is at 100% usage getting a worse gpu will get me even lower fps in smoke am I right?

Trey now on all low settings, AA on bilinear or trilinear.

Tried everything on high before got 100 fps in smoke also same with fps with all low + AA on bilinear

Do you have cs:go installed? Could you try the FPS benchmark with your system? it's a workshop map called "FPS benchmark" 😉
and check your fps in the first smoke all low settings 1080p

Sure, not home yet. Probably in a few hours.
