Windows updates shouldn't cause problems (i hope, ya never know). Sound could but doubt it. First suspicion is Nvidia driver.

Depending how recently you updated Geforce drivers because im thinking since they've just added support for Freesync it could be causing problems. It's early days right?

If you did download OR let Geforce Experience install the latest drivers for your graphics card then revert back.

First: https://www.geforce.com/drivers

Enter fields then download 2nd oldest driver, or if you can remember which driver you were on before then use that.

Secondly use DDU to uninstall drivers. Install it in normal Windows then boot to safemode to run the program to wipe Nvidia drivers. Then install the driver you...
Did you update your Driver (Windows + Nvidia)?
Monitor your temperatures with Software like MSI Afterburner or HWINFO to ensure that your hardware is not throttling due to overheating.

Could also give more Detail about your PC like GPU Brand, Motherboard, Harddrives, PSU and all that stuff, please?

Thanks :)

Have you updated Geforce driver since or used Geforce Experience to change settings or update driver? Or changed any settings in Windows or NvidiaCP?

Any changes you've made to optimise Windows, check them all again to be sure no Windows updates have reverted. I couldn't see any other reason if previous 24hrs was running fine and now not, it's gotta be software or you're sensing extra that was there previously.

+ Or you can try using Nvidia's custom clean install before resorting to DDU.

If you're using Geforce Experience, i'd advise against it. GE is a useless piece of software that causes more problems then it solves.
