Why do Ethernet network switches put have the ports on the front and the power on the other side? If you put case on desktop you have all the cables facing you? if they put them on the back with the lights on the front it would be neater looking. Im only asking because i am curious for aesthetics and no other reason. Thanks all :)

It's functional. They make certain chassis mounts and covers for this reason, but you'll most likely always see switches designed this way. You can look up homelab rigs on reddit or something and see some beautiful stacks but you'll almost always see cables front facing.

ever been in a server room with a wall of switches? 50+ ports on each switch and many many switches. the idea is to get and keep it all working. not to look pretty.

being able to quickly and easily connect and disconnect cables is the idea. can you imagine having to pull each switch out of the case to get to the cables in the back of it? would be an IT nightmare.

but as noted above, there are some designed the way you seek. they are not really for large scale commercial operations, but one in your house or small business would not be too big of a deal.
