I was planning on mounting on the top as an exhaust fans. Is this the preferred position?

1)Yes.

2)It's a pick your poison with hybrid coolers.
A)Top exhaust: a little worse overall for the device the cooler is mounted to, but a little better overall for all the other devices in the PC.
B)Front intake: a little worse overall for all the other devices, but a little better overall for the device the cooler is mounted to.
