I have 2 gaming pc's for my wife and I and a HTPC i built originally to be used like a gaming console. It had an r9 280x in it until I pulled the trigger on an HTC Vive. I swapped my current computer's r 290 into the machine since it was higher spec for VR. It has performed amicably, but I can feel it's age. Raw Data and Hover Junkers have definitely pushed the card to it's limits and I want more room to expand.
The HTPC is a i5-4590 with 8gb ram 250gb samsung ssd, 650w xfx power supply, and r9 290 in a cooler master elite 130.
I just can't seem to find many comparisons online to justify if the 1080 is worth the rough 250$ more over the 1070 for VR. I know there are some driver issues currently regarding VR as well, but i figure those will be hammered out with time. Early Adoption and all that.
I do not play any other games or anything else in 4k, i have the htcp hooked up to a 1080p projector and all my monitors are 1080p. I do have a 144hz monitor because when I can hit high frame rates I like how it looks (also how it makes windows look).
Thanks for any and all feedback!
