While we can do that with other tools / software and possibly even measure if it is working as expected, how does one measure if an antivirus works as intended? Does it have serious security flaws / loopholes? We dont know.
To be on the safe side, I'd strongly recommend one that the company themselves recommend to install.

I recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. Bitdefender firewall is very complex. There are lots of incompatibilities and support is very bad. I have always used Bitdefender but now that I use Kaspersky I think it's more user friendly and very efficient.

Bitdefender free may not be compatible completely but Bitdefender total security 2016 sure is. I have been using it 6 months now.

I don't go into firewall much, i let it do its job. It wasn't overly hard to add an item to whitelist the one time I have had to.

I have used most of the packages, I used to use Kapersky, Zonealarm, Avast, Norton.. most of big names except Macafee. Avast always asking for money, even on a paid version. Bitdefender just doesn't. that is why I like it... that and its so good at stopping infections.
