Curved vs Flat Monitors

Hi fellow enthusiasts,

I am looking for a second (dual) monitor and contemplating..
Which would be the optimal choice
27in+ flat screen monitor or 27in+ curved monitor?
I currently use a 4K samsung monitor.

I can't stand VA/TN Panels (no gaming) plus I only plan to keep on using 4K monitors.
Are there any 4K + IPS/LPS curved monitors out there (yet)?

I web browse for productivity such as reading articles, forums, use email, work on docs (notes) + memes, and watch videos that is all (no extensive programs).

Thank you!

Solution
Curved monitors are nice, but they have a "sweet spot" meaning they don't work well in multi monitor configs. You have to sit dead center to have it work the way it should. As such, unless this is going to be your only monitor I suggest getting another flat screen.

Oh wow that's a great insight and very good point about the black bars.
Budget is around $500 (maybe $600 if pushing it)

P.S. I have no idea why my 2 different questions merged together 🙁

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Bape : "Curved and Ultrawide Monitors"

Aaah I see, hello again! 😛
They're fantastic for productivity, wouldn't trade mine for the world.
There's no 4k Ultrawides available as of yet, some due to be released next year I believe, but they'd be crazy expensive.
I recommend this, keep in mind it is $24 over your previously mentioned 500-600 price range, but I suggest saving for it, as you get a great 3440x1440p IPS panel, great SRGB coverage, USB connectivity and good adjustments.
Remember, 4k will give you more real estate technically in terms of size, but then Ultrawide is great for it's aspect ratio, up to you which you prefer.

Why do these 2 different questions flat vs curved monitors and curved vs ultrawide which are clearly two different topics keep merging? I am trying to separate these into two different posts for others to not be confused and mix together..

Here are the questions I see from each thread:

Original Post
Are there any 4K + IPS/LPS curved monitors out there (yet)?

First Merged Thread
Are there any 4K + IPS/LPS curved or ultrawide monitors out there (yet)?

Second Merged Thread
Are there any 4K + IPS/LPS curved or ultrawide monitors out there (yet)?

Third Merged Thread
Are there any 4K + IPS/LPS curved or ultrawide monitors out there (yet)?

These threads could (and should) have been in a single question to the forum. There is no need to try and keep them separate.

Flat vs curved and curved vs ultrawide is the same thing in the context of what you're saying in each thread they all encompass the base question. I have to agree with Wolf here, you are kind of spamming the forums with the same thing slightly reworded, dw, just ask everything on here.

Oh wow thank you, I will try to see these monitors in person if possible.
Btw are there any 4K curved monitors and are they all a 21:9 aspect ratio?

And if they are, what would the differences + advantages of a curved 34in and a ultrawide(flat) 34in monitor be assuming they are both the same resolution, IPS panels, and hertz?

I'm sorry for all the questions just I always need to know every detail and precisely.

Hm... I was wondering about if there was a 27in curved 4K monitor for example (or do ultrawide just mean 21:9, then how about a 16:9 curve monitor?) and how about the second question?

The differences + advantages of a curved 34in and a flat 34in monitor be, assuming they are both the same aspect ratio (solves the support problem), resolution, IPS panels, and hertz?
Besides, the curve being more immersive and just a marketing gimmick.

I really appreciate your knowledge thank you.

Ultrawide refers to the 21:9 aspect ratio.
There aren't any 16:9 curved monitors that are any good.
I'm going to put this plainly; the curve doesn't matter that much unless you can afford it, it can add quite a bit to price, and quality comes first.
Forget Hz etc. gaming on Ultrawides is awful as i've previously stated.
There aren't any differences between curved and flatscreens apart from their individual monitor specs and shape?
Not sure what you mean by "(solves the support problem)", it doesn't solve the support problem, they use the same aspect ratio.

It doesn't mattered whether it is 21:9 or 16:9 but so long you chose curved monitor, you are sacrificing productivity and viewing angles for immersion effect, especially if you're planning to use multiple monitors.

Furthermore, the immersion effect doesn't always applied.
Curved monitor are design such that user must be in centre of it. Very centre of it. And the image must be first person image. Imagine 2d image on ur curved display, Maplestory on curve? Reading/browsing on curve? Watching anime or cartoon on curve? Gimme a break. Flat is just more practical and easier to use. Period.

Secondly, designers are designing ur games, anime and cartoon in flat screen. They are never designed on curved display.

Hey there,

According to the user above 21:9 are terrible for entertainment usage so I'll have to stick with 16:9 although, productivity is huge and apparently ultradewide serves a better purpose for that?

Wow you gave great relatable examples as the last game I played was MS back in 08' but mainly use comp now for web browsing/reading and to watch videos (little bit of youtube and mostly anime hooray, you know me too well I'm scared lol). Awesome insight about the designing on flat screens however, how is reading/browsing not great on a curved, is it cause of the sweet spot issue and would the viewing angles be fixed (minimized) with 3 curved monitors?

Oooh I see I am learning a lot.
Put hz only there to make it identical as possible (do not game)

Meant "solves the support problem" because you mentioned how 21:9 curved monitors "content has horrible support and that you'll be watching 99% of stuff with black bars" before. 16:9 curved would fix that, but as you said they're terrible.

Seems like it boils down to a 4K 16:9 flat and maybe get/wait for a great 4K 16:9 curved monitor as for the 3rd monitor.
Although, ultrawide sounds nice, it does not seem content support will be fixed anytime near soon (3-5+ years)

Thank you.

Yes. One 21:9 monitor is more productive than one 16:9 monitor. But Dual/Multiple monitors setup is almost always more productive than a single 21:9 monitor. Eg: You can do fullscreen gaming while browsing on another monitor. More Screen estate. Win + Left/Right key gives you 4 equal areas in dual monitor setup, while only 2 equal big areas in a single ultra wide monitor.

Any additional monitors/replacing secondary monitor with ultrawide from a dual monitor setup, no longer matter that much when it comes to productivity. It’s the actual real estate those monitors offer that matters, and how you use it.

Solution

You know.. You can always take a printed paper, and read it curvely in landscape orientation. There's no more trusted observer than you, yourself who are curious about it. But realistically speaking, it won't affect that much. It depends how curve the monitor is. ultimately the big problem is, you just need to be in the center of the monitor.
