Question Custom build for new VM/work machine

Hi everyone,

I’m looking to build a PC (my first) to use for work and VMs and wanted to get your advice on the parts.

My use case is:
(1) running Win 10 for Excel modelling and data analysis — on my current desktop at peak this utilises ~20 GB RAM and >70% of several years old i7-4770 3.4 Ghz CPU, though very little at rest
(2) Simultaneous VM running MacOS. On a standalone Mac, my use case requires 16 GB memory at peak but is not CPU-intensive. But I’ve heard that running a MacOS VM on Windows can require more.
(3) Third simultaneous VM running Win 7 or Win 10 for simple server purposes.

Here’s a list of what I’ve assembled:

CPU AMD Threadripper 2950X 3.5 GHz 16-Core Processor $679.99
CPU Cooler be quiet! Dark Rock Pro TR4 59.5 CFM CPU Cooler $89.90
Motherboard ASRock X399 Taichi ATX TR4 Motherboard $323.49
Memory G.Skill Aegis 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $102.99
Memory G.Skill Aegis 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory $102.99
Storage Toshiba X300 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive $108.99
Storage Intel 660p Series 2.048 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $204.99
Storage Seagate Barracuda Compute 8 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive $149.99
Case Fractal Design Design Define R6 USB-C Blackout ATX Mid Tower Case $140.03
Power Supply EVGA PQ 1000 W 80+ Platinum Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply $181.24
Total: $2084.60

Does anyone have any ideas to improve this machine given my use case? Also, any suggestions on a suitable graphics card? I’m not going to be playing games but I need non-laggy graphics across 3 4K monitors: 3 monitors each @ 3840 x 2160 (60hz).

Budget: $1.5-3k though I can flex a bit if it gets me a good pickup in performance.

Thanks in advance for your help

ThreadRipper1xxx/2xxx isn't particularly good at gaming due to different cores being at different distances from memory. With 3rd-gen being only three weeks away, you may want to wait and see how much better it turns out.

If you meant 3x4k as in gaming across all three 4k monitors at the same time for a 12k-wide FoV, even a Titan RTX is going to struggle with that unless you water down graphics or play relatively old/lower-spec games.
