Custom cable problems

Hi guys, I received some custom cables from a well known dealer today and have a problem with the 24 pin ATX. I've just done an 18 hours shift so thought I'd ask for a second opinion in case somethings just blowing straight by me.

One end of the 24 pin is missing a pin and 3 of the connections have 2 wires in them each.
On the other end its split into a 10 pin and an 18 (with 2 blanks) pin, so 26 wired connections.

Am I missing something or am I right in thinking that I've been sent badly wired cables and should send them back?

Sorry for rubbish photos...

I see what they did, not exactly a huge fan of that. And all the criss-crossing seems to defeat the whole purpose.

They are running the 8-pin CPU power connector off the main ATX plug. Normally those are separate, but it does make for a more universal cable.

Unless the wiring is a heavy gauge I wouldn't want to use that on a high end system. If these are office PCs, then it is probably fine.
There actually should be one missing wire. The now defunct -5V.

Doubling up isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as the crimping was done properly. You'll see this a lot on more traditional cables. https://pcbsmoke.files.wordpress.com/2015/03/3-3v-sense-wire-present-3601.jpg

Can you show the whole assembly end to end?

If you really wanted to be thorough you could label each wire and on each end to confirm.

Hmm, I wonder if all the necessary wires are there. A quick run to a electronics store for a pin remover and you could probably just swap them around if you had the inclination.

But better to report the shoddy work so they know there is a problem in their supply chain.

They're a test run for the pcs at work so I'll probably fob that job off onto the IT guy tommorow since its kinda late. He's already going to have an OCD fit due to cable pattern not matching / loads of crossed wires so might as well make his day.
Pretty sure he hit his midlife crisis when the boss said she wanted "pretty" computers! 😛

Cheers Eximo,

The crossing wires will defeat the purpose as far as my boss will care and if they aren't suitable for high end systems the tech guy wouldn't fit them since the PCs do mostly rendering.
