Sorry for remaking the thread; got no answers so seeing if unchecking that request solutions button helps.

Specs:

Windows 7 64-bit
CPU: Intel i5-3570 quad core
RAM: 4 GB (one stick was doa D:)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750

Every game I have that I'm trying to play (Natural Selection 2, Dayz Standalone mainly so far), I demolish the recommended settings, yet still only run at about 20 - 30 fps (sometimes as low as 10) with everything set to lowest or, if possible, off. My buddy has different components, but they are almost all exactly the same strength, except he has 8 GB of RAM. He runs these games at 60, every now and then dipping down to 40 for a few seconds, but never any lower. I've used MSI Afterburner, and it says my CPU for all four cores are at 100%, as well as my GPU usage. Every computer person I know says this thing should be running SO MUCH better, but it runs like a bought a $600 brand name desktop, not a $1,100 or so custom one. It's discouraging because all of them have tons of experience building computers, but have no idea why this thing is so weak.

My drivers are, as far as I can tell, up to date, all or most being released in 2014. This includes the primary mboard drivers, as well as the gpu driver. Can't seem to find any drivers for the CPU, but I read that drivers aren't really an issue for those.

I doubt it would cause an issue, but my hard drive was also dao, so I am running solely off of an ssd atm, connected by a 6gb/s sata cable.

The only thing that they can come up with being the problem is that my GPU doesn't seem to go in all the way; it hits the case JUST before the tinier section of the pins goes all the way in, but it is partially inside. My VGA cable is connected to the GPU, so since I can see well enough to type this, it's clearly picking it up.

Thank you for any assistance that can be provided; I've had this thing up and running for about two weeks now, but it's been pretty discouraging having spent so much money on it wanting to play at least somewhat modern games on it only to have it work barely any better than my old $600 brand name laptop.
More about : custo

RAM brand name is Ripjaws. Says ddr3. Came in two 4 GB sticks, only using one because other one was doa.

PSU is Corsair brand; 650 watts I think? Side says TX650, so I'm assuming that's the model number. I bought these parts one at a time when I could afford them for a year and a half, so some of them my memory has failed me on so far. This was I think the first part I bought.

Graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750.

Need to know a little bit more, the ram is which ripjaws series, what speed.

PSU is 650 watts, TX series is a good one, so shouldn't be a problem there.

Based on the info you gave above, my guess is that your problem can come from one of two things, your RAM or your GPU which isnt seated properly in the slot.

Is it a stock NVIDEA gtx 750?
Does it look like this?

RAM shouldn't be the issue; I still have 1 GB unused while trying to play these games. At least I wouldn't think that's the issue at any rate. Which number is the speed? Says 1600 after DDR3

Yes that's my GPU. If you look at the two parts with pins in it, the tinier one doesn't go in all the way because the GPU hits the case before it does.

Motherboard is a Biostar, brand name B75MU3B.

SSD is a Samsung, but it was one of the first parts I bought and I don't have the box anymore for the model number. Anywhere on the computer I can look it up?

SSD samsung is fine. Biostar on the other hand, sorry to say, but is not a good brand at all.

What kind of temperatures are you getting on your CPU? It could be that your CPU is throttling.

Install hwmonitor cpuid:
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

play for 10-15 minutes, alt+tab out, run the program, and tell us your temps, on cpu and gpu.

EDIT 1: Regarding your GPU, what you are saying is a little troubling.. it should always be in, and parallel.. the fact that one part doesnt go in all the way, means all the pins aren't aligned properly within the PCI-E slot.

That is 100% the root of your problem.

I suggest you take your tower to either an experienced friend, or a shop, and take a look at how the cpu cooler was installed, and to re-install it, perhaps buy an aftermarket cooler, and apply AAA grade thermal paste on the chip after a good clean.

To give you some numbers for reference, i have an overclocked system (means i run hotter than stock chips). And with intense games at ultra graphics, my cpu RARELY passes the 55-60 celcius mark.

It's a push-pin; I was only able to get two of them in, but figured it would be fine since it's still holding. Bottom two pins go in no problem, top two don't.

Ah...well, I suppose I should have this looked at then. Thank you very much for the assistance man. I've been using this thing for two weeks, so hopefully no damage was done.

It should be fine, CPU's are tested to handle some extreme heats, but that is not a safe temperature at all. You definitely need someone to look at it.

Either there is not a proper contact with the heatsink, or your motherboard's fan header isnt supplying enough power to the fan for proper speeds, in any case, have it checked out, and once the temperature issue gets fixed, you should be gaming at decent FPS no problem.

It's probably because the bottom two pins on the fan aren't in. Didn't think that would cause much of an issue. Will have to get someone to look at it because I couldn't fit the top two pins in the holes on the mboard
