News Custom RTX 5090, RTX 5080 listed for up to $2,800 and $1,400 overseas — initial pricing exceeds MSRP

This cannot be, please tell me it isn't so... /s
Right? Yet again Ngreedia is over charging and it sounds like they are also under delivering as well until reviews/benchmarks 'say' otherwise. Something I find unlikely unfortunately. I really wish Nvidia wasn't leaning on AI/frame gen to get these 'big gains'. I worry about this trend in GPUs. I honestly could do without the extra latency and rather have 'real frames'. Time will tell if this is the right move for consumers...

I'm not jumping to conclusions.... Because I already arrived at my conclusion two months ago... Regardless of what Nvidia suggests as the MSRP, retailers know they can get away with charging more. I fully expect nothing less than a 30% - 50% markup, and I bet it will stay that way until the summer.

Well, it has less to do with Ngreedia, but with the way the world works.

Where I am at - there is an automatic 20% tax on purchases, and then the local stores of course want to earn their cut from this and they also pay for shipping and so, so slap on another 20-30% overhead give or take.

We already have preorders and pricing up here in some stores locally and 5090 is around $3500 here from all the taxes and overhead above.

These exorbitant price tags could be placeholders, so it's best not to read too much into them

If you consider these prices to be exorbitant, you obviously haven't heard of Greece.

Here, we have retailers selling 4090s for 4,000$, 4,500$ and even 5,000$.

I don't even dare to think what kind of price tags we'll see for 5090.

Makes me feel better with my 4090 that was purchased at the retail list price.

AI seems to be the big driver in the current valuation of video cards and there is really nothing that can be done on this. It does not matter what the retail prices are, just like they were not during the crypto craze. Now the ability to make money with AI will drive the prices.

Good thing you can just buy a card from someone else that makes and sells cheap cards, OH, nevermind.

Just boycott any card more than $1000 ? the Titans were priced at $1000 in the past, what is happening ? a "gaming" card should never reach such ridiculous $2800 price!

Some people, only want to game at 4K, which, combined with Path Tracing, is a very taxing resolution, so they need every extra bit of performance improvement they can get.

I only game at 4K... but I really don't care about RT and PT. Both are very gimmicky IMO and at least as far as my eyes are concerned... sometimes not even noticeable.

I still very much enjoy VR, and project uevr is breathing new life in to the space... still unreal 5 engine + VR + hi res pimax set = 4090 on its knees. I could put 4x the render power to good use.

Well, that's probably because Path Tracing is rather new in gaming and every new technology needs to go through an evolutionary process, in order to mature.

Right now, it's obviously still in experimental stage.

Give it time.

This is horrible. The prices are sooo bad, that i can't even believe RTX 3080 used to be so cheap not that long ago...
Oh well, RIP PC gaming. We are all going to buy 60-70 tier cards from now on... I used to have top of the line stuff, now ill be happy if i can afford the 70 tier.

Thanks Nvidia+Europe+Greed+store scalping. You made me hate PC gaming and buying new hardware.

I also only game at 4K, but where I make concessions is in the frame rate. I can settle for 40 FPS, but want ALL the eye candy turned on. DLSS Quality setting I will also allow, but not frame generation. My 4090 should be fine for another generation.
