So I got a GT 1030 Gigabyte with a white/grey heat sink, thing is there's a cable in the way that I cant move because the heat sink it just too big. It it possible to cut off the end of the heat sink since there's nothing underneath it like the main board or anything or will it dramatically effect it?

thanks for any replies!

Ive seen it done, but you need to be really really really careful not to cut any of the heat pipes. I doubt it will effect cooling all that much but again if you must be very very very careful on what you are cutting through.

Another thing, seal up the card with painters tape and plastic (you could stick the card down in the static bag it came with and tape it closed) where ever you are not cutting because any metal shavings left over could cause a short.

I'm new to this whole heatpipe thing, how do I know where a heatpipe is? and are there any heatpipes in the heatsink its self?

the cables cant be moved because theres no where else to put them.
my dad has tools & is experienced with them like saws, etc
the only part I want to cut off is the little bit at the end of the heat sink, maybe not even the whole thing, just a bit to fit it in without forcing the cable out of its spot.

Can't get any photos as of right now but, I got an Acer tc-230w/ AMD A4 (which is like so ughh) and the cables in the way are for the front usb slots and I think the DVD tray as well.
