D5 pump leaked from pump/reservior threads then stopped

Ok so I just put together a custom loop with an xspc d5 photon 170 combo pump/res. Leak tested overnight, no problems. Been gaming in it a couple days and water temp has maxed at 37C after gaming/benchmarking continually over the span of three hours. I hear a dripping noise and see coolant leaking from where the pump meets the res. Turn off computer and jump the 24 pin and run the pump at the highest speed for a while and no leak. Would I be correct in assuming that the pump leaked due to too much pressure built up in the system? The pump is no longer leaking and I'm running the system with the fill port open in order to allow air to escape. I really don't want to have to drain the system and tear apart the brand new pump.

Solution
If it leaked once, its probably going to do it again since it was a pump/res combo.
Custom cooling is not something you want to just assume is going to work right after an issue.
