D620 lcd works for a few seconds then blacks out

Boots normally during the first few seconds screen works normally then blacks out butt the boot compleets normally , when it goes to sleep and I bring the laptop up the screen works normally for a few seconds and then goes blacks out the labtop is running. how can I fix that

Your laptop is like ten years old (probably more). I suppose the LCD display (the matrix itself, or the backlight) is dying. It could be as simple as a capacitor, and as complex as dead circuit somewhere.

The parts only will cost you like $150-200 (add another $100 for labor), and for these money you can get off eBay much better, newer laptop.
