Daisy chaining two u2415h Dell Monitors with adapter cable possible??

Hello,

I have a y410p Lenovo laptop that only has a HDMI and VGA output (and a usb 3.0). I am thinking about buying two dell u2415h monitors but only if I can hook them up properly and extend the desktop.

Below is a visiual configuration.

My question is, can I buy an HDMI to display port adapter, plug the HDMI end into my laptop and the display port end into a monitor, then daisy chain the other monitor together like what is shown in the link above??

If that is not possible, can you guys please offer a setup suggestion? Thank you.

I don't think so - it needs to be displayport all the way from the source.

You could use a Displaylink USB graphics card, but performance isn't too great, and their approach to drivers is pretty horrible.

Other option would be to use a single larger monitor, and snap windows into the sides/corners.

Why don't you just connect one monitor with HDMI to HDMI and the other with VGA to HDMI adapter?

VGA to HDMI adapters are non-standard, and generally don't work. I think the only device that supports them is some gaming console.

The monitor does not have VGA, so VGA cannot be used directly.

Lenovo have a USB 3.0 dock with a DVI-D display out. You could grab a DVI-D to HDMI cable and run the second monitor off that. Also gives you the benefits of the dock.

It is running display over USB, which isn't great, but you have a really solid CPU there and the USB 3 solutions are much better than previous gen. It'll work really well for any desktop/browsing uses. Media consumption won't be perfect, but you can just make sure you run that on the native HDMI display: https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/documents/pd028106

There are other (likely cheaper) solutions out there, but that's an option and sticks with Lenovo products.

These are entirely interchangeable and all the same inside, no matter the manufacturer. They're invariably based around a DisplayLink chip, and brand doesn't matter.
