Damaged Usb port causing low fps?

Earlier, I accidentally pushed really hard down on my mouse Usb input.

I have been getting significantly worse Fps in a all games.

I was wondering if it's possible for the USB port damage to cause lower fps or damage to other components that could cause this?

Solution
I'm going to have to say that your drop in frames is probably just a coincidence. There is likely something else that has occurred or changed recently that is resulting in the lowered frame rate.

USB ports don't determine frames per second unless part of the mission critical pipeline for rendering frames is made to rely on USB, which would be very, very unusual.

If you want me to do some reaching, like Barty did earlier and say, perhaps the front ports are controlled by the CPU or motherboard chipset, at which point, maybe some freak occurrence took place, but the likelihood of not killing your USB controller yet killing something else seems a bit far fetched.

Since the front port is connected via cable, you can always disconnect it...
It seems unlikely.

I guess, theoretically, it could cause some sort of 'short' resulting in MB power components protecting themselves?
The knock-on effect could be reduced power to the CPU or GPU (via the PCIe slot) which could result in lower FPS...

But that's really, really reaching.

I am getting consistently about 20% lower performance adn this is confirmed by my 3d mark score which is lower. Really kicking myself for doing that.

Is there anyway I can check if what you mentioned it happening?

If the USB was shorting out, you would likely receive USB error messages in Windows, or at the very least, hear the sound of USB devices coming and going. If the port was damaged beyond working, you might also see a yellow bang next to it in Device Manager.

If your mouse is still plugged into the port that you are concerned is damaged, it would likely have incorrect or intermittent behavior. If the mouse is working fine, with no noticeable change, you likely did absolutely nothing to damage that USB port. Doesn't mean you didn't otherwise torque the motherboard or case however. Really depends how much force you were using at the time.

Ok thanks, I very much appreciate the detailed answer.

It was a sharp force to the front usb, which is connected via cable to the Mobo. I'm 100% sure it didn't so much as wobble any other component.

The mouse is fine and I have no noitable errors, just about 20% average framerate drop. Areas in games that when looking still were 60fps are now below 50fps and there are a lot of drops all about. This is in direct relation to when I hit the port. I monitor Fps all the time.

Since the front port is connected via cable, you can always disconnect it and see if the issue persists.
