I've read that in the past you could only mount the be quiet! Dark Rock 3 horizontally on AMD motherboards so that it exhausts to the top of the case.

Is this still the same for the AM4 Socket/Ryzen CPUs (using the AM4 bracket)?
I want to mount the cooler so that it exhausts to the rear of the case.

In case anyone else has the same question. After looking closely at both the AM4 bracket and all be quiet! coolers, it looks like only the Dark Rock Pro 3 and Shadow Rock 2 can be mounted vertically on an AM4 motherboard.

Unfortunately both of them are too big for my case/motherboard so I will have to go with the ugly Noctua cooler :/

What motherboard are you using? I'd like to know how much clearance there is below the Dark Rock Pro 3 on the motherboard I/O side because I have an I/O cover on my motherboard.

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

The fan towards the front of the case sticks a little further out that the ram. The other side with the bare heat sink ends just where the vrm heatsink rises up. About where the CPU fan header plug is. There's plenty of behind my cooler on my mobo, not sure which one you would be using though and how much further back the cpu socket might be. Looking straight through the back of my case it looks like my heat sink sits just below the highest socket of my I/O shield. All of my RAM sits under it with about .quarter inch clearance (rough guess.) Plain hyper X fury ram with the blue spreaders on it.

I have an MSI X370 SLI Plus motherboard.

The vrm heatsink is about the same height as my corsair vengeance lpx ram so it's kind of a gamble whether or not the cooler will fit.
