Question Dark Rock 4 vs Dark Rock Pro 4 - 3900x

Overall you dont even need a cooler in the first place anyway the stock AMD one is enough. Now if you want to get an aftermarket i would pick the Dark Rock Pro 4 because performs better and at least in my country its just 10 euros difference from the Dark Rock 4. Ofc you have to consider that the PRO version is much bigger than the non pro.

I really don't want to use the stock cooler. I don't want to see the 3900x going to 90C under load.

The Dark Rock Pro 4 Ram Clearance is ok with the Trident Z Neo RAM.

I just wanted to know if the Dark Rock 4 was a good cooler for the 3900x and If I really needed that beefy dark rock pro 4.

I dont see how you can get 90C with wraith prism especially if you have a decent airflow case , probably will just be louder. I personally used the wraith prism cooler with older chips (Ryzen 5 1600 and 1400) and i was able to overclock them at 3.8-3.9Ghz with no thermal problems overall.

You didn't mind the jet engine sound of the fan running at maximum? I just can't deal with this. I'll just get that massive Dark Rock Pro 4 and slap that on my board and that's it.

There are no reviews online or on youtube with the Dark Rock 4 vs Dark Rock Pro 4 with the 3900x. So I can't see the temperature difference between the Dark Rock 4 and Dark Rock Pro 4. If I could see one and saw that the dark rock 4 was comparable to the dark rock pro 4 I would buy the Dark rock 4.

What about the NH-U12S? (CHROMAX of course!) Performs close to the Pro 4 for cheaper.

I might consider this one. Look's cool and doesn't block the RAM slot at all so the RGB RAM will be visible. I know the Be quiet are quiet. Don't know about this one. I'm building this in a p600s case with 3 140mm front intake and 2 140mm exhaut.

Would the Dark Rock 4 be an ok choice too?

Yea, you really can't go wrong with any of them as they will all be quieter and offer better cooling then the stock CPU.

Thanks. I think I will go for the Dark Rock 4 and if I have any problems in the future I'll change it. I just want a nice black cooler that doesn't block the RAM up to the second slot.

The funny thing is. The dark Rock Pro 4 is the same price as the Dark Rock 4. Would you buy the Dark Rock Pro 4 instead? The only thing with the dark rock pro 4 is the ram clearance and I know I'm ok with the triden z neo. I just won't see them :p

For the same price I'd get the Pro even if it ruined the view of 1-2 sticks. You could always put in dummy rgb memory although I don't think they make them for the Neos and may look weird if they're the Corsair ones.

Yeah I'm not building this system for RGB anyway. I'm on a budget and I once thought about buying 300 dollars of RGB stuff but I then came back to my senses and decided to go for performance instead.

Dark Rock Pro 4 is 117 Canadian Dollars and the Dark Rock 4 is 116 dollars. I'll get the Pro 4 I guess. Who cares about the RGB RAM :p

Thanks everyone. Love ya!

Hi everyone.

Is the Dark Rock 4 enough for a 3900x or should I get a Dark Rock Pro 4?

I won't be overclocking. Just want good temperatures.

maybe is too late maybe not but i have ryzen 9 3900x and dark rock pro 4...i dont overklock my pc and temp are good i test with CinebenchR20 its around 69 70 max...i have case fractal design mesh c and not add any extra fan yet...that tems are with minimum fan rpm

Hi dimtodim. I built the system like a week later. I have the same temp in Cinebench 20 and it's idling at around 34C. Got a P600S case with 6 fan and yes the temperature is at minimum fan rpm. It's very quiet :)

did u do some setting in bios about voltage...today my cpu temp underload is around 45c...i dont have air condition in room and its late summer here but not too hot in room...yesterday i make pc build to day is second day using ryzen 9 3900x and dark rock pro 4...only change what i made i close pc case with glass panel...soon as possible i will add extra fan in case. and last question did yout temp jumpin around 10c up and down?

It's literally like 16C in the room so yeah it's cold that's why I probably have a 34C idle temperature.

And don't worry about the CPU spiking in temp. It's totally normal for a Ryzen idling. 1 core is not sleeping but all the other cores are sleeping when at idle. The moment you do something that 1 core will spike in temp really fast and this is what you're seeing.

I recommend you change your fan curve so that it's quiet under the spiking temperature and start being aggressive over that temp. Like that you will have a quiet system.

And yes I did something about the voltages. My CPU was going to 1.5V. I added a negative voltage offset in the bios of -0.1V. It's now at 1.375V max and the temp is better.
